Mangaluru: Prices of coconut falls due to surplus supply

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Aug 27: Ganesh festival is round the corner. During this time, generally the rate of coconut sees an upward trend. However, this year there are no signs of the prices going up as the supply is plenty. Coconut growers are disheartened.

Now the prevailing price is Rs 25 to 27 per kg. For one coconut, the rate is hovering between Rs 11 and 13. In addition to fall in prices, the coconut yield is affected due to yellow palm disease at Swamila Padavu area.

Though the demand for tender coconut is less during monsoon, the prices are still high at Rs 35 to 40 per piece. As tender coconut has demand in Hassan, Mandya, Delhi and Mumbai, the rates have not reduced.

Though tender coconuts are available, the pickers are not available. Even if there are labourers, the growers get less profit as the picker charges Rs 100 to 150 per tree. So removing tender coconut has become an issue for the growers. On the whole, coconut supply is in abundance and that is why prices have fallen, while tender coconut prices are high, but pluck to remove the same are not available.

It is now time for Doubling the farmers income. sure enough there are lot of troubles on way to harvest the crop, sell the crop and the market decides and the supreme leader is trying but due to circumstances farmer is not able to double the income. It is Farmers problem. Farmers in the north are having trouble selling apples due to market conditions. Kindly check in the area if Adani has set up cold stores and ware houses to mass acquire crops. Surely after the market issues, adverse natural conditions, issues of harvesting and holding onto the crop to bargain for better MSP can not be met, big brother will be ready to take over at throw away prices like the defunct big bazar shut down sale from farmers. Farmers protest is gathering steam again demanding MSP that has not been implemented and large store houses are as expected exploiting gullible farmers and the sad story. Anna data is on the road again. Suite boot sarkar is not a slogan it is a reality. The double engine is almost on all trains now except one handful. As long as the citizen can read the lines and sense the meaning when preached prior to elections with religion and fake nationalistic & cast cards the farmer, worker, very small to medium business man and middle class will be licking sugar coated candies till reality bites. 40% margin is real and is confirmed when the people in position do not deny it or just ignore the plea from the electorate after the elections. Only paper ballot and not programmed data stored to ensure victories can fix the issue where enough preconditions would be settled to secure free run through EVM. Farmers, employees, affected middle class and small to middle class business men & general public that are concerned with the wellbeing of family and society need to think logically clear of of political and religious bias in view of the general good and development and demanding accountability at all levels for general good. Look at Education, Employment, farming..

This is because many families who settled down started improving their barren land or many bought plots and developed. They started planting variety of fruit bearing trees/coconuts/area nuts etc. So, supply is more. Demand is less because, medical practitioner frighten people not to consume coconuts and coconuts saying it has more bad cholesterol level...(LDL) which is wrong. Monty Dotor mafi chahathi hu dude....🙏🙏 People, see what Dr. B. M. Hegde says about coconut oil and its uses. People, Dont buy fake oils which are manufactured outside our state.....

Very right, virgin pressed coconut oil is the best oil for health as it contains lauric acid a medium chain fatty acid same as in mother's milk along with strong antimicrobial properties; all other processed oils are harmful for the heart! This negative propoganda was made by the powerful palm oil lobby which is blindly followed by our doctors!!

You are on right track Cynthia, Yeah coconut or its oil is best after mother's milk according to Dr B M Hegde, as only mother's milk & coconut oil gets absorbed by babies. The cholesterol myth is perpetrated by those oil mafias which want to poison our people with processed seed oils which are twice heated to extract them & as it becomes rancid they use more chemicals to remove the impurities, remove its bad smell, & bleach it to clear it & finally add preservatives which are carcinogenic & not the oil itself. Only coconut oil doesn't become rancid even at high temperature while even Olive oil loses its beneficial traits once it gets heated & becomes rancid due to heating. Heart attacks were taking place in those people whose cholesterol level is lower & they are prone to cancers, while the medicines like statin has 60 side effects which might save 1 life if 1 million people take it but more people might die early due to its side effects. Treating the real cause of high LDL or imbalance between it & HDL is the right way. Healthy lifestyle & exercise can only reduce these lifestyle diseases & no medicine can save a single life in reality. Dr BCR advices people to shun any product that is packed & advertised on TV and not created by nature but by man, if people learn the truth then coconut & its oil will get the prime spot

Dev, I don't know how many doctors emphasize on remnant cholesterol levels which is a more important indicator of cardiac issues and strokes than LDL cholesterol!!

Yeah, Rudolf R, treating symptoms rather than the cause behind them is given priority by modern pharma industries as they are long term money gainers for them. Our liver produces both LDL & HDL cholesterol for a reason as inflammation in arteries are covered by them like band aid to prevent further damage, and if untreated the LDL which sweeps the debris will keep on building clots & cause heart attack in those places. Liver would stop producing it when inflammation is healed & not by using medicines to stop producing them which damages Liver cells & a chain process is broken as CO Q 10 which is an anti oxidant & energy(for heart) providing enzyme doesn't get produced due to this intervention which triggers heart attacks which the medicine wanted to prevent & Type 2 diabetes onset is another side effect of statin.

It's surprising that coconut being such a valuable nut fetches peanut profits as compared to arecanut; better to convert coconut plantations into areca for super profits!
