Udupi: Lady’s viral video on pathetic road - MLA Raghupati Bhat clarifies

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (JD)

Udupi, Aug 27: MLA Raghupati Bhat has responded to a video posted on the social media demanding responsible answers from him over the bad condition of roads. On Friday August 26, Komal Jennifer D’Souza, a resident of Udupi had taken the MLA to task over the pathetic condition of Perampalli-Manipal road. The video had gone viral within minutes of posting it on social media.

Responding to her complaint, MLA Bhat on Saturday August 27 said, “I am aware about the condition of the road. I want to clarify to the public that the Perampalli-Manipal road work is incomplete as yet. It is still in its initial stages. With an intention of making the road motorable for the public, we had put a single layer of tar on the road. Another two rounds of asphalting is yet to be laid. If this road was not asphalted and had been let open after filling it with gravel stones, there was every possibility of the stones getting out of position and thus creating problems for the commuters. It is a new road and due to the heavy rains, it is damaged. We will repair the same two days after the rain stops. The work on the road began in November last year. Earlier, it was a single road and I got a sum of Rs 26 crore sanctioned for laying the road. I have conducted at least 100 meetings for the development of this road. Tenders for street light also have been completed. During the interim period, we are bound to face such difficulties and people should understand this. Due to the problems in the TDR process, the work was delayed.

“It is unfortunate to face these types of criticism. I have no objection to the lady’s comments. As a citizen, she has raised the issue. My intention is to clear all sorts of confusion and misgivings among the public. Due to heavy rains, no temporary work will survive for a long time. Once there is a permanent solution, there will be no room for such complaints,” he said.

Another two rounds of asphalting is yet to be laid" If the Under-layer Sub-base or aggregate base course was compacted properly and side drainage ditch was constructed, nothing will happened. Can you check the thickness of of first layer of Asphalt? In gulf counties 60mm of Asphalt Base course and 40mm of Asphalt wearing course can withstand any weather condition for more than 15-20 years.

The roads everywhere are in a very bad shape. It appears like there is no accountability or guarantee period for the work done or the concept of retention money or penalty clause while awarding contract. Also, there is no one to certify the quality of the work accomplished. It is necessary that proper checks and balances are to be implemented so that the tax payer's money is not wasted on the potholes. Also the commission Raj has to be stopped, no khaaoon gaa yaa khaane dhoona should be seen by all citizens. Due to this the contractors use poor quality materials to complete their work as they too need to survive and recover their cost. Further, citizens to be provided a toll free number where they can complain of the poor quality of work. Or else where and whom shall they raise their complaints or grievances in such matters. Social Media is the only option.

I have listened to her video which is very clear to the point where every citizens is concerned about thier wellbeing. It is a job of elected Politicians to listen to the concern of the society and make progress towards those raised concern. I know my father pays taxes 4 fold compared to previous years. It’s very sad to see many potholes on roads.

Money got sanctioned, 100 meetings were done then why the road was not completed before mansoon? Probably 40% was not agreed in all those “100” meetings. Only when this lady’s video got viral, the explanation is coming out, I would rather suggest Govt. to give the information to news paper/media about the completion date of any projects instead of giving full page unwanted political ads. and that part/page of the news paper is used to pack bisi bisi pakoda.

I got Rs.26 Crore sanctioned I have conducted 100 meetings for the development of this road If you are a resident Udupi, you will fail to understand “WHY” do all works pertaining to PWD or the HIghway Authority Of India the Contractor or sub Contractors start their project works In the month of May when everybody is aware that Udupi experiences the heaviest rainfall in the months of June and July. Why can’t the outdoor Public infrastructure or Public Amenities works begin in October when the weather is suitable for outdoor works as well for those people constructing them. Secondly when an MLA claims with the word “I” did this and “I” did that. Why not “WE” got Rs.26 Crore sanctioned by the Central Government, which takes 50% GST from those local tax payers on groceries, services, public transport, education, housing, and as well hospitisation and medicines, etc., and as well income tax from all the residents of Udupi town or Udupi suburbs or the Udupi district as a whole. The development is of and for the benefit of all the people of Udupi and India, including the MLA and other locals who are representing the people of Udupi to bring to the attention of those in the Central government sitting on Trillions of Rupees collected by means of Excise, Customs Duty, and GST, etc. from all the people of India from all States of India. We should be all united as Indians and responsible for development and upliftment of our country to be on par with Western or Gulf countries that are well developed with just max 30% of our Indian population,

Quote “It is unfortunate to face these types of criticism .........." unquote, if you thinks so; then resign and sit at home, after all you are peoples representative and you are enjoying MLA facilities bla bla i.e. from tax payers money. Tomorrow you people will declare anti-national because as per your party/government if anybody raise questions about malfunction/protests/criticism you people will label them as anti nationals.
