Islamabad, Apr 16 (PTI) President Asif Ali Zardari has appointed lawmaker Moula Bakhsh Chandio as Pakistan's Law Minister in the wake of the resignation of Babar Awan.
Awan, a lawyer, resigned earlier this week to represent the government in a hearing in the Supreme Court regarding a review of the death sentence awarded to former premier Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, the founder of the ruling Pakistan People's Party.
Chandio, a member of the Senate or upper house of parliament, was appointed Law Minister by the President on the advice of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, presidential spokesman Farhatullah Babar said yesterday.
Chandio will take oath as a federal minister today.
The appointment was announced following a meeting this evening between Zardari and Gilani.
However, Chandio is expected to hold the post only temporarily as Awan is likely get back the post of Law Minister once the hearing in the apex court ends.
