Gautam Adani becomes world's 3rd richest person, first Asian to be in top 3

New Delhi, Aug 30 (IANS): Gautam Adani was already Asias richest man and now he is also the world's third richest person, overtaking LVMH chairman Bernard Arnault and becoming the first Asian person to take that spot, according to Bloomberg and its Billionaires index.

Adani, who runs one of India's top conglomerates, is now believed to be worth approximately $137 billion, the tracker shows.

That's after a surge this week placed him just behind Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, whose own fortunes are estimated at $251 billion and $153 billion, respectively, CNN reported.

Like other billionaires around the world, Adani has seen his wealth skyrocket during the pandemic.

The founder of the eponymous Adani Group controls companies ranging from ports and aerospace to solar energy and coal.

His fortune has grown exponentially since the start of the global health crisis, as investors bet on his ability to grow his business in sectors that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has prioritized for development.

Adani has also benefited from an uptick in coal usage, which has catapulted his ascent in recent months, according to Bloomberg.

He overtook fellow Indian tycoon to become the region's wealthiest person in February, CNN reported.

His shot up the global wealth rankings comes as some members of the world's 1 per cent give away more of their resources.

In July, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates announced he would devote $20 billion to the endowment of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and reiterated his intention to move "off of the list of the world's richest people".

Bill Gates is currently ranked the world's fifth most affluent person, according to Bloomberg's index, with a net worth of $117 billion, CNN reported.

I always admire business men like Ratan Tata, N R Narayana Murthy whose intention is not to make money, but to create a value to the society. That is why these two people have more respect in India than Ambani or Adani.

His parents moved from Tharad,a town in North Gujarat because of drought there, and more than one family stayed at a small place, at Ahmedabad. He studied in Gujarati medium CN Vidyalaya ,a good school. I have seen him on a old Vespa scooter comming out of Ratan Pol .As his English was not good he would carry his good friend Dr Mahadevia, around the world for his business deals. Dr Mahadevia was a dentist (now a CEO of one of the group companies). Gautam is a good person at heart and always willing to take risks. The only problem is that the financials of his group companies are not well leveraged and he has entered many diverse areas of business which are not the core business area. If the bubble bursts banks will go for a toss, and also the hard earned money of depositors.

Exactly, his dues are 2& half times the net worth of his assets, which means he will have a big fall as he has risen to the top too fast thanks to 'Hum Do'. Banks are forced to lend to him to buy our national assets which belongs to all the people without any securities which past governors of RBI has not permitted as in case he defaults & every investor demands his money from the banks then whole banking system will collapse as no banker has the guts to issue loan recovery notice to him. The govt could have divested the shares to public & make them real owners of public sector assets instead of favoring 'Hamare Do'. People take care of your hard earned money as in the event of banks collapsing you will get only 5 lakhs & rest will be gone. Study which banks have given loans to them & move your funds to those banks which have sound financial management from last decade or more. People never will become slaves unless they become poor & become dependent on govt. to have Food, Money & Shelter. Say No to Digital Cash which support Social Credit Score & take your Freedom away.

Cynthia, you say "Zaadu potha lagaane ka kaam milega kya sir." First of all Valmiki community will not allow that job to be given to you. They have their unions. Mumbai Municipal corpn has dalits, all dalits are not sweepers. But all sweepers are dalits. "thaki mei bhi famous ban jaavu?" What do you think he will give you a six figure salary for that job ? How do you think you will become famous, if you have any idea, please let me know, I too want to become famous. Good Luck.
