Udupi: Demolition of illegal shed of fisherwomen – Council takes opposition member to task

Udupi, Aug 30: There were arguments between the ruling and opposition members over the municipal council engineer demolishing an underconstruction shed of fisherwomen in municipal council member Krishnamurthy’s ward, Kinnimulky here recently. The debate went on for more than an hour in the recent ordinary meeting of the council.

Council member Devidas Shettigar said that the threat by local people to the engineer who went to demolish the shed was condemnable.

Councillor Amrita Krishnamurthy said that the action was not politically motivated. Member Prabhaker Poojary alleged that officials were supporting brokers.

MLA Raghupathi Bhat warned that strict action will be taken against officials if brokers were found around the council office. He said that a proposal to name Brahmagiri circle after Oscar Fernandes – Ashwini Shetty had been sent to the government for approval. The council has approved the construction of Savarkar Circle near district court. “I will inform Hindu Mahasabha and Jagarana vedike leaders about it. The final decision will be taken after collecting the public opinions,” said the MLA.

President Sumitra Nayak, vice president Laxmi and Manju Salian were present.
