Head of Indian MMA association announces his intention to promote SAMBO with support of Russia

Aug 31 (PR): Mayur Bansode, the president of Indian MMA, is asking Russia for help in promoting and spreading sambo in the South Asian republic. Maybe this sport will become really popular here in the near future, and if so, we will understand it better and bet on it as well. Historically, martial arts have been in high demand in India, Bansode said. "We need the support of Russian sambists when it comes to teaching athletes the rules of sambo. There is no doubt that Indian athletes can wrestle, but they need to learn the rules. We need help for leading athletes from Russia to come to India and help us set up sambo training centres and teach our athletes," he said.

Plans for the future of the Indian Sambo Federation

Mayur Bansode pointed out that the Indian government supports the sport and provides grants for its development. Mayur Bansode said it is important to regulate and formalise the sport. Therefore, they plan to establish a local non-profit association in India. This organisation must meet all the requirements for sports associations before it can apply for a government grant.

According to the president of the Indian MMA Federation, they must submit sambo rules, athlete safety standards, and anti-doping regulations in the sport. They must also host the national sambo championships for three consecutive years. He stressed the importance of supporting Russian athletes at this point.

Sambo to every Indian village

According to Mayur Bansode, each Indian state has its own style of wrestling. It will be quite easy to adapt sambo in India as it is comparable to wrestling, he claimed.

There are already gymnasiums in the big cities where martial arts are taught. However, the actual wrestlers live in small towns. Young people in Indian communities will get excited about sambo if you introduce them to it. You need to guide them and give them knowledge on how to pursue a career in the sport. Families from different financial backgrounds will be able to attend sambo classes, Bansode said.

The growth of SAMBO in India, he believes, would open up new opportunities to further promote Russian-Indian relations.

Everyone in our country is familiar with Khabib Nurmagomedov and Fedor Emelianenko. If they came here, they would significantly advance the growth of martial arts in India.

Mayur Bansode's plans to promote sambo in India have already been supported by the Indian MMA community. "If the Indian government and Russia support us, we can spread sambo throughout India, teach it to kids and inspire young people. Russia is the birthplace of the sport, so we need its knowledge and experience," stressed the president of MMA India.
