Puttur, Aug 31: In a shocking incident that occurred in the wee hours of August 30, in between Harady–Citygudde stretch near Kabaka-Puttur train station, on the train that was going from Bengaluru to Karwar, a vanity bag of a woman passenger was snatched from her by a man, who escaped by jumping from the running train.

Nirmala, wife of Ramesh, native of Karwar and a teacher in Bengaluru, is the woman robbed of her vanity bag.

The train started from Bengaluru on the night of August 29 to Karwar. It reached Kabaka-Puttur train station at 2.30 AM. As it started from the station and was running between Harady bridge and Citygudde, Nirmala came to know that some stranger was trying to pull the vanity bag she had kept below her head. She pushed the man. However, while pushing the man the bag got severed from its strap. The robber got the part of the bag with cash and gold.

Nirmala caught the man, who tried to jump from the train and pulled the chain. As the train was slowing down, the man jumped on the tracks and ran away. The woman also fell on the tracks as she lost balance.

The robber escaped and the injured woman was admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru. The bag contained cash and golden ornaments worth Rs 8 lac.

Mangaluru railway police have registered a case and are investigating further.
