Excess bus fare by private bus operators – RTO accused of eyewash

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru (MS)

Bengaluru, Aug 31: The RTO has tweeted the photos of their officers standing in front of private buses saying that they were inspecting the accusation by the public regarding excess fare.

However, the public has criticised this as an eye wash. Citizens are questioning what evidence will the RTO officials get if they stand in front of the bus that is ready to start. If actually the department wished to put an end to over charging of fare by private bus operators, this kind of name sake operation would not have been done, they said.

A person tweeted, “Bus checking is not done near the highway toll gate. It should be done near the ticket booking centre. How much fine have you slapped on him?”

Another netizen tweeted, “If anyone looks at the online booking of private bus operators the picture becomes clear. During off season, they will run the buses even if they are near empty. If you people are really concerned, withdraw the 5% GST. What is the guarantee that the 5% GST collected from us goes to the government?”

"This is not the first instance of private bus operators charging more than double the normal price during festive seasons. Why is the RTO, which was not bothered about this for so many years, making this kind of a showoff? If they really want to take action they could have taken the print out of the websites of private bus operators and register a case on them. In addition, they could have gone to the office of these private bus operators in civil attire and asked for a ticket and known how much they are charging," says another netizen.

Now the public is urging the RTO to share the amount of fine that is slapped on the private bus operators and also the number of buses that are seized.

The problem with RTO is without any saying "Corruption". They need to be put behind bars for swindling poor mans hard earned money in millions. We need to thank a particular mindset which is being implanted in the peoples minds that it is "ok " to be corrupt in a govt office.

Travel by train,. Teach this bus mafia a lesson. When there is demand surely prices will soar. Basic economics of demand, supply and price. When demand goes up and supply is constant surely prices will go up. When demand is low and supply is constant price will fall, driver and conductor make money in this case. Problem is there no upper limit cap. Between Mangalore and Bangalore there are about six trains daily make the best use of the same. RTO only spectator corrupt to core.

Its a good advice. But, train tickets have to be booked much in advance. One week before/in urgency/emergency do not get train tickets. Trains are plying fully. This increment not only this time. Since many years same strategy. I think this time, KSRTC didnt put extra buses also...

When demand is high, price going high is normal. Coconut prices fell because of oversupply, and we did not witness any issue did we? When the vacant seats become scare, make it pricey so that quality of supply will be better. Do not curb competition and basic fundamentals of economics. RTO's action is unwarranted because, when it hurts biz, nobody takes care. But when it hurts consumers, no matter what, biz owners needs to be penalized or be leveraged to buy the silence of Raj. Tomato prices drop, cocunut prices drop, Raj and its touts watch on the sidelines. Either chose license Raj or free market economics. You cannot have better have both.

Few days back I took a taxi to Mangalore air port. The waiting free time to drop the passenger for the taxi is 10 minutes; more than that the charges are Rs. 100/- Just few months back, it was Rs. 20/=. As Adani Group is managing the air port with the patron of ruling govt politicians, no body is questioning the steep rise in air port charges. Same situation of steep price rise is with other mode of transportation.
