Kasargod, Aug 31: The Railway Protection Force and the railway police personnel have arrested a Tamil Nadu based woman on charges of keeping an iron rod covered with concrete on the railway tracks.
The arrested woman is Kanakavalli (22), a resident of Villapura, Tamil Nadu residing in a quarters at Bekal.
Being a rag picker, she has confessed that she had kept the rod on the tracks in order to separate cement from it. Police who saw her walking on the tracks questioned her when she admitted to her action. The rod was kept on the tracks between Kasargod–Kahnangad and Kotikulam–Bekala on Sunday, August 21.
Iron rods were found on the tracks behind Trikannad temple. A huge mishap was averted by the alert railway guards. More than five such incidents were reported from Kumble to Bekala in a month.
Huge stones were also found on the railway tracks near Kumble railway station. One of the concrete pieces weighed 35 kgs. Stones were also hurled on the Coimbatore–Mangaluru train at Chittar. Miscreants had tried to break railway tracks at Trikkannad, Kumble, Hosadurga and Talangere.
