Karkala, Apr 18: “The gods governing finances and education will not come to you on their own to shower you with blessings. You have to achieve progress in these sectors by evincing interest in claiming benefits under various government schemes formulated for your welfare,” said state social welfare minister, Narayanaswamy. He was speaking after inaugurating taluk level convention of BJP SC Morcha organized on Sunday April 17 at Sharada Manjunath Pai hall here.

“Under the leadership of Chief Minister, B S Yeddyurappa, we have formulated various schemes. The benefits of these schemes should reach even the last person in the society. People’s representatives and officials should make sincere efforts to ensure that this happens,” he advised.

He accused Congress party of bragging about welfare measures it had undertaken for the backward communities since the last six decades, without doing anything in reality. He noted that after such a lengthy rule by successive Congress governments, 80 percent of dalits in Bidar, Gulbarga and Raichur districts continue to live in thatched huts, and over 90 percent of their settlements have not been provided with basic amenities. He promised to sanction as many houses as the dalits may require in the taluk within 15 days of receiving applications.

He said that he believes in sanctioning two crore rupees as grant for building community halls and Ambedkar Bhavans instead of releasing grants of one or two lac rupees as in the past, which is a petty sum. He said in case proper proposals are sent for constructing spacious community halls, the government will favourably consider them.

Taluk SC Morcha president, Srinivas Karla, presided. State Yuva Morcha president, V Sunil Kumar, BJP constituency committee president, Maniraj Shetty, general secretary, Purushottam Rao, taluk panchayat president, Jayaram Salian, and various other leaders were present.
