Kundapur, Sep 3: Demand for construction of Sarkal bridge that connects Saukuru of Gulvady gram panchayat and Sarkal of Kavradi gram panchayat is a long standing one. However, the administration’s lacklustre attitude did not meet this demand yet.

If one crosses the river that flows opposite Saukuru Sri Durgaparameshwari temple, he or she can reach Sarkal. The width of the river is less in this area. If a bridge is built it will be convenient for residents of two villages. Earlier, people used to make use of a footbridge. Now, no one dares to walk on the footbridge. Only during the Saukuru festival, a temporary footbridge of wood is made.

Ten years ago, residents of Sarkal used to walk on the footbridge. However, it used to get washed away during the monsoon. So they have stopped building a wooden footbridge in recent years. Instead, they go around to reach Saukuru.

From Saukuru till the rivulet, there is a road. From Kavradi till the edge of the rivulet, a road is already constructed. “There is no need for huge funds to build a bridge. People representatives should take the initiative,” opine locals.

The construction of the bridge will make life easy for agriculturists and students. It will shorten the distance for residents of Kavradi, Sarkal and Mumbaru to reach Saukuru, milk producers’ society, school and temple. Now they have to commute via Kandloor bridge.

Spirit of the people of Sarkal is dampened as their repeated requests for a bridge have fallen on deaf ears. Both sides of the rivulet are villages which are not developed. A bridge will not only bridge the relations between the villages, but also greatly help their development. Hence, it is essential to build a bridge across the Sarkal rivulet.
