I have to say these numbers are grossly under reported. I went from Australia to Mangalore 2 weeks ago and returned one week back. Next day I came to Australia I was tested for covid positive as I have having symptoms of fever and cough. I attended a function in mangalore and my sisters and brothers and their entire family about 25 people were having same symptoms and I am sure it was covid. None of these people went for covid testing. After 5 days I was OK and covid negetive and all my relatives back in Mangalore were also recovered. I knew my case in Covid but all my relatives refused to go for testing saying it will lead to more complications and kept quiet and I am sure they even spread to others as they were going out and attending more functions.
