Bengaluru, Sep 4: The high court drew curtains on the chaos that prevailed over the CET confusion of the current academic year and gave a verdict in favour of II PUC repeater students of 2020-21 academic year, who were on the verge of losing the opportunity of getting admission to professional courses for the 2022-23 academic year.

The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) had taken out an order on July 30, 2022 that marks scored by II PUC students of 2020-21 will not be considered in the admission process of CET. However, now the high court has quashed the order of KEA. 

This has opened up an opportunity for the students who could not write the examinations due to Covid-19 restrictions and were passed on the basis of internal assessment.

Higher education minister Dr C N Ashwathnarayana said, “I do not know in detail about the verdict of the court. Once the order is known, action will be taken accordingly.”

The high court, in its verdict, said that not considering the PU scores of 2020-21 for professional courses, while the same is considered for all other admissions amounts to discrimination.

While the students who were passed based on the internal assessment scores of 2020-21 will benefit from the verdict of the court, those who wrote CET this year might be pushed behind in the rank list. Moreover, the KEA has to go through the whole process of announcement of ranks etc all over again. As this requires quite a lot of time and students getting admitted in private colleges may miss crucial lessons.
