Beltangady: 6-year-old orphaned after alcoholic husband kills wife

Daijiworld Media Network – Beltangady (MS)

Beltangady, Sep 5: The death of a woman that occurred at Agarta of Kokkada village, which was considered as suspicious, is confirmed by medical examination that she was killed by her husband, who is arrested by Dharmasthala police.

The deceased is identified as Mohini (36). Her husband Ganesh (48), is arrested in this connection. Ganesh is a native of Shanivarasanthe. He married Mohini, resident of Kollamogru of Sullia eight years ago. The couple have a six-year-old son. The couple used to live at Agarta of Kokkada.

Ganesh was an alcoholic and used to do rubber tapping work. It is said that the couple used to fight frequently at home. On August 30 morning, Mohini was found dead at home and blood was oozing from her forehead. Though Ganesh did not confess to killing, after the post mortem it was confirmed that Mohini was murdered.

The six-year-old son of couple is handed over to child care centre as both families of Mohini and Ganesh did not come forward to accept him. Mohini had cut her relationship with her family after marriage. Even Ganesh’s family is not in touch with him.

Dharmasthala police are investigating further.

Clue is Saravanabhawana.....!!.(fill in the blanks)" Cynthia, It's almost four years since I went to Mangalore in 2019. Now my daughter has settled back from Muscat and she is staying the house. As to stock it's quite normal keeping few bottles hard Liquor and chilled Beer. I have cut down a lot (75%) since 2019 That is because I realized my weaknesses. In moderation everything goes well. Ablesh poora gela. (moji Bail monkthali ablesh sutana monon)

@Cynthia, Dk "Very true........👍 ....Still govt gives more and more licenses to open the new outlets in each and every poverty stricken village.....Excise duty ki jai ho..." I fully agree with you. Alcohol provides temporary solace and enjoyment but if crossed the normal limit then different world. World of short temper, aggressiveness, flash back into old good and bad memories, unnecessary arguments and minor destruction. Most of the alcohol users must have gone through. ONly problem next morning. Regret, repent and keep low profile and look out for ganji/curds lime pickle ! Im a changed person now (under control.

Cynthia, many tipplers prefer home made brew against IMFL if no other ingredients like nausagar etc are added!! As you said many people in interior areas brew at home during cashew season and stock it underground to relish it in the rains!

Cynthia, Do you know liquor flows freely in a state where it's totally banned? Recently, 45 poor people, in that state died after consuming methyl alcohol!! Banning serves no purpose as it will give a golden chance for bootlegers and corrupt officials to make money! BTW, poverty and hopelessness are worse than any other thing! If you see most of such incidents occur in the "very poor people category" where even many women take to drinking to numb their insecurities!!

Rudy sir....yes....i do not deny that many poor women drink. Even middle class or rich ladies to that matter irrespective of every caste. Some hide and drink some free minded openly gulp.... They too get drunken in over limit and many untoward incidents happening which are not getting published. I have seen the unmarried girl employees running towards the bar section on Saturday evenings. Out of curiosity, i asked one of the employees outside in cash counter...what happened to them...he said werkend alla madam...jolly madalu salpa purchase madthare...Young college girls also habitual of that consumption...Speaking about the ladies of lower grade....in the beginning husbands themselves pour and give them to drink.... Then, such "pouring" becomes habit for many ladies. There are incidents, husbands give their wives to drink so that she should not ask any questions about his chori chupke kaam. I have seen some families educated/rich are broken because of alcohol....uncontrollable drunkard men and women are put in the ashrams. Many educated alcoholic died out of liver cirrhosis (dont know spelling is right ?).......Some loose nerve sensations and i have seen a man ...very rich man around 50's passed urine where he was standing in front of the reception of a hospital. Since he wore white mundu till ankle length no one noticed. Once he left urine got spreaded all over. ........In conclusion, alcohol is a curse to the society....

Cynthia, you are right in observing that many young girl college students have taken to alcohol and tobacco especially on weekends; this is the result of easy availability of money sent by parents! Also many families are destroyed where both husband wife become addicted and later become paupers! BTW, the thing to be noted is not all tipplers become addicts, they enjoy responsible drinking throughout their lives; but, it's not known why some people become hard-core addicts; there could be a genetic propensity or many other factors which may contribute to getting addicted! There is a saying in Ayurveda that anything in excess be it food, sex, sunlight, exercise or even water (water poisoning) is detrimental to health so also alcohol!! So, banning does not serve any purpose except giving chance for hooch brewers and corrupt officials!!

Very sad indeed... He could have separated instead of killing... Poor woman trusted him and left family... RIP to the departed soul... May God bless the child with His Grace... At times destiny of the child will change for the better in new environment... His mind would have been wrecked if he had to continue to see the same fights on everyday basis... But loss of mother at that tender age is simply an insurmountable vacuum...
