Mangaluru: Free electricity to SC, ST not cancelled – Minister Sunil Kumar

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Sep 6: Energy minister Sunil Kumar clarified that the state government has not cancelled the Amrit Jyoti scheme that was given to SC/ST.

Speaking to media Sunil said, “Beneficiaries of Amrit Jyoti scheme that is implemented by the energy department, get free electricity of 75 units per month. However, information is rife over electronic, print and social media that this scheme is cancelled, which is not true.

“Certain rules are formed to get benefits of this scheme. It is difficult to follow these rules. So the rules are cancelled and not the scheme,” he said.

Yerna Ammerna Kaas .. They increase rates for us .If there is one day delay in bill payment then they call us as if we are some thieves. Anyways ..any economically backward SC ST should get this facility ..no problem in that .often this too is misused by the affluent class amongst the SC ST .If you give 100 rupees bribe to revenue department they will give any SC ST certificate you want.

Whose money is he thinking it is? These politicians think there is no one control and they can go on announcing schemes using tax payers money for their political gain. SC/ST people may be surprised that such schemes are announced even if thy have not asked for them. Already so many benefits are given to them that they may be wondering why so much concern when they have not asked for it.

I seriously do not understand the logic in giving free electricity to SC/ST. Are others not come under BPL , are all SC/ST are under BPL? What is the Logic? why this decrimination ?

Don't continue to keep them poor by extending alms... Empower them to earn and pay with self respect from their own pockets... Vote bank politics is universal and not limited to any single party... Social upliftment can happen only when we generate opportunities for the backward sections to stand on their feet with pride...
