Bommai decries politics over floods

Mysuru, Sep 6 (IANS): With tempers flaring up over the havoc wreaked on Bengaluru by unprecedented rainfall, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai called for cutting down the political hyperbole on the issue.

Speaking to mediapersons at Mysuru on Tuesday, Bommai regretted that politics have shadowed the devastating impact of the rain and floods.

He observed that the current situation calls for everyone to work on war-footing unitedly as foul weather does not discriminate between political parties.

"All the tanks across the state are full and there has been record rainfall everywhere. We have launched a war in rain and need to face this challenge united. But it has become a habit to do politics over petty things" Bommai stated.

Bengaluru has suffered the brunt of the record rainfall levels registered in several decades. Copious rainfall since Sunday has literally brought life to a standstill in several parts of the city.

Over the past two days, the opposition Congress party and ruling BJP in the state, have been sparring over the collapse of civic infrastructure in the city.

The state government will provide Rs 300 crore to deal with rain which has been lashing across the state, the chief minister said.

"Papa yaar....he cant walk on the dry road also....How he can survey by walk on flooded roads ? " First of all he should have worn shorts and rain shoes/boots to have proper grip while walking. Must have cursed the previous government for all the hardships he faced.

Agree Bommaiji that this is not the time to play politics, also the fact that the government machinery alone will not be sufficient to tackle this.... But then it is your failure to inspire people to join hands together with the local administration and fire force / police, forgetting all other differences, Why people will not unite in the need of the hour is for the simple reason that you have sowed enough and more seeds of poison in the minds of people and divided them apart.....

No city or country can be prepared for an extreme situation. Yesterday, Cochin city was flooded, worse than Bangalore. Even no country had enough hospitals when covid struck. Lets be reasonable and be critical only about how the government is responding to this situation.

Why should you cry foul here.. this is not a game.. Arent you the CM, you have legislative and discretionary powers.. if you are straight forward, just bring forward the corrupt, demolish the encroched storm water drains, demolish illegal structures, auction the culprits assets and relocate the affected and needy people to their rightful place.. Its disgusting to see such comments coming from a CM at a time when people look upto you all jokers

Forget for immediate all the cause and effect .. No officers .. no senior people from govt giving directions .. Even when world trade centre twin towers fell .. Nobody in their wildest dreams expected such a catastrophic event .. Yet All service providers geared up .. fire emergency and many related for emergency . Many lost their lives rescuing .. Now not advocating anybody should die .. But commitment..need of the hour .. Everything is lethargic .. no one Here is asked to resign ..heads rolling .. Happened recently in Portugal ..minister resigns over a death ..
