Puttur, Sep 7: Karnataka Regional Youth Commission on the occasion of the 12th Karnataka Regional Youth Convention, in collaboration with the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) diocese of Mangalore organized Yuvajanothsava Cup - Throw ball and Volleyball tournament for Catholic women and men of Karnataka region on Sunday September 4 at St Philomena College ground, Puttur.
The day begun with the Holy Eucharistic celebration at Divya Chethana Chapel of St Philomena College, Puttur. Fr Lourd Raj, secretary of Karnataka Region Youth Commission and Fr Ashwin Lohith Cardoza – director of ICYM diocese of Mangalore were the main celebrants of the mass. Participants of the tournament, REXCO and DEXCO members took part in the Holy Eucharistic celebration.
After mass, players from 12 different dioceses took part in the procession which along with the guests and dignitaries of the day with the college band team. A formal stage programme was held at the college stadium.
The programme was inaugurated by releasing doves as a symbol of peace by all the dignitaries on the dais and Karnataka Regional Youth Commission flag was hoisted by the dignitaries.
During the inaugural speech, Mar Lawrence Mukkuzhy, bishop of the diocese of Beltangady congratulated the youth and gave his best wishes for the day. Bishop Mar Lawrence Mukkuzhy was also honoured during the programme.

Fr Stany Pinto – campus director of St Philomena College, Fr Lourds Raj – secretary Karnataka Regional Youth Commission, Fr Ashwin Lohith Cardoza – director of ICYM, diocese of Mangalore, Nevin Antony – president ICYM Karnataka Region, Martina John - secretary ICYM Karnataka Region, Fr Joseph Cheeran – diocesan youth director of Beltangady diocese, Sr Jessy – former secretary of Karnataka Regional Youth Commission, Anil John Sequiera - president ICYM Diocese of Mangalore, Nishal Preemal D’Souza – general secretary ICYM diocese of Mangalore were present on the dais. Jaison Lawrence Crasta compered the inaugural programme.
As an important part of the programme, Terrance Levy Crasta – vice president of ICYM Karnataka region led the oath-taking ceremony and Viola Reshma Lewis, regional representative read out the general instructions of the tournament and also introduced the referees.
Bishop Mar Lawrence Mukkuzhy, inaugurated the tournament by passing the ball in both the Volleyball and Throw ball courts.
The inaugural programme was hosted by ICYM Diocese of Mangalore, Anil John Sequiera - president welcomed the gathering, Lianna Rodrigues and the team of ICYM Puttur unit invoked God’s blessings, and Nishal Preemal Dsouza – general secretary delivered the vote of thanks.

As an attraction of the event youth of Mangalore diocese performed a flash mob to entertain the crowd.
The valedictory function started late in the evening. The chief guest for the valedictory ceremony was Msgr Dr Eldho Puthenkandathil. - vicar general of Puttur diocese. Fr Ashwin Lohith Cardoza, Fr Lourde Raj and Nevin Antony were also present on the dais. The chief guest addressed the gathering and appreciated the enthusiastic sportsmanship of the youths. The chief guest was felicitated by Fr Lourde Raj joined by REXCO team. Nevin Antony announced the winners and runners of Yuvajanothsava 2022. The chief guest distributed the trophies, Fr Ashwin Lohith Cardoza put up the medals and Fr Lourde Raj distributed the certificates to the winners and runners up of Volleyball and Throw ball, Yuvajanothsava 2022.
Nevin highlighted the best moments of the day and summarised a brief about the upcoming events of RYC 2022. He also delivered a vote of thanks with a special mention of ICYM Mangalore diocese for hosting the event so well and ICYM Puttur unit for their great volunteering service. Fr Lourde Raj gave them the mementos as a token of love. Martina John - secretary ICYM Karnataka Region, Prajwal Lopes - MIIJARC coordinator, Terrance Levy Crasta - vice president ICYM Karnataka Region, Linu Daniel – treasurer ICYM Karnataka Region, Fr Suprith and Fr John Paul of Chikmagalur Diocese were also present on the dais. Deepthi Sophia, MIJARC coordinator of Karnataka Region compered the programme.
A certificate of participation and a memento was given as a token of appreciation to all the participants.
The referees for the event were Naveen – physical education teacher of Ambika Degree College Puttur, Pramila - physical education teacher of Shivaramkaranth government high school Puttur, Chandrakala - physical education teacher of government High School Bettampady and Rafeek from Puttur who helped to conduct the tournament successfully. Office bearers of ICYM Puttur helped in the preparation and worked as active volunteers throughout the tournament. Hundreds of youth, well-wishers, local community people, former DEXCO, REXCO leaders and other ICYM members witnessed the match. Jaison Lawrence Crasta – former president of ICYM Diocese of Mangalore and Roystan Rebello – vice president of ICYM Puttur unit commentated the match.
