Udupi, Sep 9: The nativity of Mother Mary, Patron of the school was celebrated as Patron’s Day in St Mary’s English Medium (CBSE) School, Kannarpady on September 7, at St Mary’s Auditorium.
The programme commenced with the prayer song followed by welcome note by the principal Fr Johnson Sequeira. The celebration was presided over by V Fr Charles Menezes, correspondent St Mary’s Educational Institutions, Udupi.
Fr Cyril Lobo, the director of Divya Jyothi, Udupi diocese, was the chief guest of the programme. Chief guest in his address to the gathering stressed on the importance of the role played by a mother in everyone’s life through narrating stories and singing melodious songs dedicated to mother. Correspondent gave a call to imbibe the qualities of a mother in lives.
On this special occasion various competitions like creative selfie in the garden, selfie with women in the family, chart making, elocution, essay writing, singing, flower arrangement were conducted for the students from KG to grade 12. The cultural program included a harvest dance and skit on various titles of Mother Mary. Marian hymns were sung to highlight the importance of the day. Marian Bambina was offered with flowers and guests on the dais were given with sugar cane to symbolize the celebration of Monthi Fest- the family feast of the Catholics of coastal region of Karnataka. As a preparation to the feast 9 days novena was observed where in the students brought and offered flowers to Maria Bambina every day.
Wilma Nazareth spoke on the importance of the day and Shruthi announced the names of the prize winners of the competitions held. The sponsors who contributed towards the distribution of sweets during novena days were felicitated. The 11th volume of the ‘Marian Panorama’ the school magazine was released on this occasion. Preemal and Lavita anchored the programme. Alona proposed the vote of thanks. The programme came to an end singing the school anthem.
Vice principal Rita Quadros, head boy Nidheesh Shetty and head girl Samantha Mascarenhas were present on the stage. The whole programme was meticulously planned and well executed under the guidance of principal and vice principal respectively.
