Mangaluru: Jayananda Anchan elected mayor of MCC, Poornima deputy

Mangaluru, Sep 9: The 23rd mayor and deputy mayor of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) were elected on Friday September 9. Jayananda Anchan was elected as the mayor while Poornima, the deputy mayor.

M Shashidhar Hegde from Congress and Jayananda Anchan from BJP contested for the mayor’s post. As many as 46 voters voted in favour of Anchan while 14 corporators voted for Hegde.

Zenath Shamsuddin from Congress and Poornima from BJP contested for the post of deputy mayor. Poornima has secured 46 votes while Zenath Shamsuddin received 14 votes.

Regional commissioner Dr GC Prakash conducted the election. MCC commissioner Akshy Sridhar was present.
