Udupi: Parents from Mumbai Fight Over Custody of Child

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Apr 21:  Two cases relating to claiming the custody of a child of a Mumbai-based family got registered in Mumbai and Manipal police stations respectively. The struggle between the father and mother of the child in question ended with the Manipal policemen deciding to transfer the case to their Mumbai counterpart on Wednesday April 20.

Frederick from Udyavar near here had married Cynthia from the town. The couple, who settled down in Mumbai, has a girl child. After differences between husband and wife reached a point of no return, Frederick took the child and went to his native place. Immediately upon learning about the incident, his wife filed a complaint in Vashi police station Mumbai, claiming that the child had been abducted by its father.

Upon learning that the father of the child was travelling by train, the Vashi policemen contacted the Manipal policemen. With the help of Konkan Railway police, the policemen from Manipal took Frederick into custody on Tuesday afternoon, immediate after he alighted from the train at the local railway station. The Vashi policemen, accompanied by the woman in question, reached Manipal on Wednesday.

Thereupon, the Manipal policemen transferred the case to Mumbai, and the policemen of Vashi went back to Mumbai along with Frederick and his child.

    Vishal,

Are you sure you salute Hindu Culture ? Of necessitating a son to carry out final rites or blame the wife for her inability to bear one ? Of shaving a widow's head and forbidding her getting out of the house fearing men will see her with evil motives but its alright if her in-laws subject her to lifetime sexual harassment ? Please do not bring religion into everything ! What happened to this little girl is not religious !

This kind of cases are bound to increase in India because we are very 'forward' now and it is common in western countries.

When we are blindly following the damn western culture, the family values will disappear which is for sure and the end result is breaking of families, children on cross roads and dependency on legal law and not bond of law.

There is a dire need to create awareness in the society to forego the western style and hold on to Holy Indian Culture. I salute Hindu Culture!

Being the baby is a girl, after all legal formalities she will be handed over to the mother. I request the couple to restrain from quarreling over this beautiful semblance of us which otherwise would have been a bundle of joy, sealant of two individuals. Please come to a decision of one of you giving up on the child or hand her over to an institution legally with you having no attachments hereafter. Such children are given for adoption by the government to an unknown applicant. No personal handing over or guardianship is allowed - this is illegal - otherwise I would have been the first contender to take home this gift.

I do hope and pray for a good outcome of the custody case. It is important that children know that both parents love them. In certain cases ( with the exception of abuse) mediation works and is helpful in setting the issue of custody and access before taking it to Family Court. I do not know the Laws in India.

What a pathetic parents having hate and bitterness in their heart, they don’t love the child but they want to show their ego to one another that’s it. Just ego and lack of understanding these type of situation arrives at homes.
