Attack on Rahim: Police Question Two, CM to Visit Hospital

Mangalore, Mar 15: Daijiworld has learnt that the Bajpe police have questioned two people in connection with the attack on Rahim Uchil on Thursday March 15.
Both the persons, who identity is under wraps, are from Bajpe. The police refused to divulge details, stating that investigations are on in full swing.
Rahim Uchil, president of state Beary Sahitya Academy and general secretary of district BJP minority morcha, was attacked by six assailants at his office in Attavar on Thursday afternoon. His condition is said to be slightly better.
Meanwhile, chief minister Sadananda Gowda is expected to arrive in the city on Thursday night and visit Uchil at Unity hospital at around 10 pm. The CM is currently in Udupi canvassing for the bypoll.
In another development, Uchil's friend Riyaz Harekal of Korattady House, Harekal, who admitted Uchil to hospital immediately after the attack, has stated in his complaint that the assailants were between the age of 25 and 30.

Mangalore: Beary Sahitya Academy President Rahim Uchil Attacked, Hospitalized

Mangalore, Mar 15: President of state Beary Sahitya Academy Rahim Uchil was attacked by a gang of six miscreants here on Thursday March 15.
He has been admitted to Unity hospital and his condition is said to be serious. It is said to be a murder attempt.
Two of the six miscreants barged into the Beary Academy office in Presidium complex at Attavar, while the others vandalized it from the outside. The attackers stabbed Uchil in the stomach, neck and hand. The attender and some others who were inside were also injured, sources said.
The miscreants, who came on three bikes, also pelted stones and smashed the office property, it is learnt.
Swords and other weapons were found lying near an apartment opposite Presidium complex.
Eyewitnesses said that the men had covered their faces with handkerchiefs, and hence identification was difficult. Also, the number plates of the bikes had been deliberately covered with mud.
Senior police officials and other policemen rushed to the spot. Pandeshwar police are investigating.
The incident was recorded by a CCTV camera installed at a beauty parlour nearby. However, the recording was not clear and did not help much in identifying the attackers.
Two women staff of the office later said that they rushed to nearby shops to hide. Some of the shops shut down their shutters as soon as the incident took place.
Rahim's family members including his wife Shahina are at the hospital. Local BJP leaders also rushed to the hospital.
Rahim Uchil is also the general secretary of the district BJP minority unit.
