Bangalore, Apr 23: The ever-growing and generous support to various communities by philanthropist Ronald Colaco reached its zenith when he personally built and donated a modern church (Holy Rosary Church)  to the Catholic community of Venkatala/Yelahanka of Bengaluru diocese on Sunday last.

At a glittering ceremony graced by at least 2,500 people from all walks of life including the locals, Archbishop Bernard Moras blessed the mammoth church and honoured Ronald Colaco and his family acknowledging the great contribution by him to the society.

It may be recalled that recently Ronald Colaco had enabled the renovation of the Hoysala temple in Chikkajala with a pioneering effort, helping the Hindus in the neighbourhood immensely and bringing back memories of the Hoysala dynasty. The Archbishop seemed excited at the beautiful church erected with modern architecture and the latest facilities that included seating in the entire area.

Speaking on the occasion after the blessing, Archbiship Bernard Moras said that Ronald Colaco has been a glowing example of communal harmony, having supported various deserving causes from different communities both in India and abroad.

"Ronald Colaco has now created history by becoming the first community leader to build and donate a church exclusively by a leity to benefit the faithful. Th expenditure for this fully equipped modern church met by Ronald Colaco would not be less than 2.72 crore rupees," the Archbishop said.

Quite fittingly, Ronald Colaco and his family were felicitated immediately after the inauguration of the church.

Acknowledging the honour, Ronald Colaco said that he had a divine call four years ago in one of his early morning dreams, asking him to build a church for the faithful apart from his other charitable activities. Coincidentally, the Archbishop was also planning to build a church in the Yelahanka area and he was interested to discuss the idea with Ronald Colaco. When Ronald and Jean met the Archbishop, there was a concurrence and the project took off in no time. With both the parties agreeing to the noble idea, the project was ‘on’ and in no time, coupled with unending efforts, a stunning all-white church for the faithful was ready.

Ronald recalled the special efforts put in by his son Nigel Colaco who was in charge of the church project among other assignments. He also acknowledged the moral support by his family members including his wife Jean and other son Randall Colaco and his brothers and sister as well. While thanking the Archbishop and the community for providing him this ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity of giving this gift to God, Ronald also went on to praise the contribution of the missionaries all over India in their untiring efforts in the educational, social and medical fields.

He also called upon all the members of the community to be united in their efforts to safeguard the interests of everyone around and not to indulge in criticizing or attacking the clergy and missionaries which otherwise will divide our community which is already facing hard times from the fanatics and fundamentalists. The need of the hour is unity at all costs, he said.

The church is a beauty in all its glory with the altar being the centre of attraction. A faboulous carving of the Last Supper takes the prime position of the altar and looks beautiful especially when the lights are on. Another masterpiece is the round tabernacle. All in all, the entire structure is complete with beautiful sound system and chandeliers that adorn the church.

Various church organizations including the Archbishop himself honoured Ronald Colaco and his family with shawls, garland and mementoes. The entire programme was well arranged and it was heart-warming to see the overflowing crowd present till the end.

The parish priest of the church, Fr Prem was eloquent in his vote of thanks when he profusely mentioned the efforts of Ronald and Nigel Colaco in taking special interest to build the church so nicely.

Fr Prem also said that some of the furniture and lighting was specially selected and brought from China by Ronald and Nigel to give a fantastic finish to the church which will now become one of the leading ones in the diocese. He also thanked the clergy from all over including Fr Denis D’Sa of Fr Muller Charitable Institutions, Fr Clement Mascarenhas and community leaders like Valerian Fernandes, Bertha Fernandes, Joachim Serrao, Walter Cyril Pinto, Dennis D’Silva and especially George D’Costa who donated the land long ago to the parish.

The function ended with a grand dinner for the community members who were present for the blessing and opening of the church.

RONALD COLACO, wow !!! this name was always making me feel surreal rather unreal ,fictitious, & why NOT ?? Cause such were his deeds that it looked a fantasy. BUT I had a look-in into the persona called RONALD COLACO...wah !! too unreal to be true.

Being associated with the newly formed Christian Development Council, I felt that it would be a loss of the council if THE RONALD COLACO is not Consulted. Met him at his EMPIRE ''Hollywood & Swiss TOWN''. What a down to earth ,practical & humble Person he turned out to be.!!! wow..He showed me around, his huge 350 acre township, spent quality time, almost 7 hours, & was humility personified!!

At his ''CLARKS'' 5star restura, watching Sachin tendulkar on screen[IPL] I truly told him that he has Sachins humility. Simply because I felt so.!! What a perfect Host...took care of the minutest details, in fact, peeled the shell of the butter garlic prawns for me at the dinner table.. just as a matter of fact...so subtle & so simple..that you are at ease to ask or say anything..I talked like a village bumpkin ,but he was so straight & honest in his replies that really shed light on his impeccable character !!

This Mr.RONALD COLACO is for real,, he is flesh & blood.. I can believe Cause I truly FELT HIM & His HUMANE HEART...Its no wonder that HE does ALL this CHARITY, In fact HE does it as if its HIS DUTY !!!R.C. da JAWAAAB NAHIN !!!.No doubt HE is the first to build the YELAHANKA CHURCH, from the laity.haaaa!!! There are too many firsts to HIM, No doubt ,the doubting THOMASES will always Doubt this remarkable person, CAUSE HE has NO reason for Doing all what HE is doing. haaa I am sure Mr R.C. will be chuckling ,when people attribute motives to his CHARITY...plain & simple..It indeed was an Honour to meet THE RONALD COLACO..He was that fresh in my mind, that I spontaneously wrote...OH !! A TRUE INSPIRATION this RONIAAB !!!LOVE YOU RONIAAB...jerardin dsouza

Beautiful place for silence, prayer, song and worship that can provide inspiration for meaningful service of fellow citizens. Deepening one's inner life is vital in these times of massive upheavals, insecurities and relentless globalization. The congregation of the faithful will benefit from this generous gesture by the Colaço family.

Ronald Colaco is a hero for me in many ways. What he has performed and serviced our society none of our so called politicians, leaders or any individuals have done to our society or made any slightest attempt to bring solace and relief to people of needy. His mantra is “I have one life. If I can not do anything in this life when will I do this ?”

Our people know how to amass wealth and hoard it for their children. Here is a genuine Good Samaritan who has helped the society by his sheer love for the people without accepting anything in return other than respect, adulation and love. Within a period of say 6 months he has spent about 10 crores Rupees for the people. He is not Birla or Tata. In my opinion no one has built such a magnificent church in India from personal fund. He has inculcated his culture to help the needy to his children also.
I have learnt so much from him.

Still learning. That is why I expressed here as my hero. He is a true Christian. He is a genuine kind hearted individual with whom I have had the pleasure of interacting, sharing his views/ thoughts with me. This has made me a better person in life. I am happy to say this. If we live for others, god will give us a better life of peace, happiness and satisfaction.

Mr Ronald Colaco and family. The new church is work of marvel. The parishioners of Yelahanka will remember you forever for your generosity. The best part of the church is the hand crafted piece of the last supper, placed at the alter. When lit, it enhanced the beauty of the church. "Gift of giving" is in itself a precious gift from God that need be celebrated by each and everyone of us. The mere thought of building a place of worship is certainly a "gift of thought" that has turned into a reality. This reality is rare and precious and deserves the best of appreciation.

The place of worship is a sacred place where people will kneel down and meditate asking God's blessings upon themselves and upon all those they surround with. People of all ages, colours, cultures and languages will flock together and congregate together and ask God's blessings upon all of us. Our families, our communities and our countries will benefit from these prayers.

The kind and magnanimous gesture of Mr.Ronald Colaco will go deep down in the history of our community. Thank you, Mr. Ronald Colaco, for your timely and thoughtful gesture. God will watch over you and your family, and help you to continue your mission in this "small world - a beautiful world" where every "gift of giving" will help each and everyone of us. Qudha Afeiz.

Ronald Colaco and his family is blessings to Karnataka. I appreciate his entrepreneurial spirit. Every one of us should learn from his lifestyle. I wonder how he accomplishes tasks one after another. One thing should be learnt here. The more you give the more you get. What is happiness in the eyes of Colaco family is they are ready to serve others and in doing so their life has shared with others. Colaco family sees God in others. I can tell one thing project like this, needs lot of hard work, coordination and investment. God bless Colaco family.
