Udupi: Club owner Guruprasad Bhat murdered in Manipal, three arrested

Manipal, Jul 29: A man was brutally murdered near a recreation club at ‘7th Heaven’ building in Manipal on Sunday, July 29. Three suspects were arrested by police later in Kandlur in relation to the crime.

The deceased has been identified as Guruprasad Bhat (47), a resident of Ambagilu Puttur here. He was one of the owners of the recreation club. 

The arrested are Sujith Pinto, Pradeep and Rajesh.

According to police sources, at around 12.30 in the noon, four miscreants came in a Maruti Omni and stabbed him using lethal weapons before abscondng. He was shifted to hospital at Manipal where he succumbed to his injuries. Police sources have also suspected financial issues to be one of the reasons for the murder. 

He is survived by wife, mother and two daughters.

Guruprasad was friends with Hithendra Prasad of 'Hai Marutha' newspaper. After the death of Hithendra Prasad, Guruprasad started his own tabloid named 'Satya' but was under loss. He had joined the recreation club business just four months ago. 

Manipal police are further investigating the case.
