Dear Do..Re..Me..Fa.. browsers,

Again, it is my privilege to present this year’s first melodious musical chord to the valued browsers of ‘daijiworld.com’.  After having a wonderful and quite memorable Christmas holidays back home in India, I am back here again with New Year’s first chord.  First of all, let me take this opportunity to wish you and your family a happy, prosperous, healthy and blessed New Year-2004.  May heavenly blessings be upon you throughout the year 2004 and I am fully confident that you will support me this year too as you did it in the previous year by your great encouragement.  In return I will try my level best to live up to your expectations by presenting exciting and melodious chords.

In this great month of January, this esteemed web portal ‘daijidubai.com’ now known as ‘daijiworld.com’ has successfully completed three glorious years.  I take this occasion, to congratulate and thank its mentor Shri Walter D’Souza, Nandalike for his great sacrifice, dedication and determination in bringing this wonderful portal to its current level.  I also appreciate and thank the talented and efficient support team for their unassumed service with exemplary dedication.

During this Christmas vacation I was busy hunting and accumulating such music chords, that have contributed a lot to Konkanni music but their contribution did not receive desired recognition. I was fortunate enough to get some of them in my stride and I am going to present them in an interesting fashion in the coming episodes.  The first star, whom I am going to present today, is the most hard-to-get personality which I had ever come across.  For the last one year I am trying a lot to get his profile on board but in vain.  This time around I never missed the opportunity and was able to meet this personality in ‘Sandhesha’, Mangalore during a recording programme of Maand Sobhaan.  This great star is none other than Music Maestro Shri Joel Pereira, son of all time great legend of  Konkanni Traditional Music Gumtam Shri Joachim Pereira.

Joel better known as Joy, one of my close friends, is really a gem and down to earth personality, always hiding from media and publicity.  Music flows through everyone of his veins. He is proficient in playing Organ, Piano, Violin, Accordian, Sitar, Tabla, Gumtam etc. He was the director for “Maando Fest-2003” a record breaking musical extravaganza first time in the history of Konkanni Music.

Joy is celebrating his 40th birthday on 30th of this month.  As he is getting naughty at forty, on your behalf I wish him A Very Happy Birthday and all the best in his future life.  He is very determined to make others happy through his music talent; we pray that the Almighty God grant him happiness in many fold.  May all his dreams come true!

Once again, dear music lover, I thank you for your interest and great support.  I shall see you next month with another melodious music chord.  Until then bye!

Gerry D’Mello

MUSIC  MAESTRO  -  JOEL PEREIRA

Joel Alexander Pereira, a music instrumentalist par excellence, most popular in the Konkanni music world, is a God’s boon and Konkan’s pride.  Any Konkanni musical Nite or extravaganza, any Konkanni audio or video Album recording is incomplete without the instrumental accompaniment of Joel Pereira!  “Music is Divine”, says Joel, and he is intent on experiencing that divine.  He is not after fast filmy music to make a fast buck, but he is devotedly learning all the nuances of music, experimenting and experiencing the eternal sound and pass on that experience to the next generation.

I have met Joel about whose fame, music accompaniment I had heard during my seminary days. I was admiring his skill and talent of Music. Fine musician. Like harmony in the music, there is harmony in his life too. So simple, soft spoken, approachable, still contributes to the church choir, humble and lovely person. This was my experience when i met him. May God bless him and his Family, grant him happiness in many fold. May all his dreams come true!

I know Joel very well. There is no doubt that he is one of the best musician i have come across. I am also a musician qualified from trinity college london. I can technically tell that he is really good when it comes to sight reading composing and arranging the music.
I wish him all the best for his future life.
