Harold R J Saldanha (92), retired Indian Navy officer, husband of Merlyn (nee Pais), father and father-in-law of Premila and Ebbie Brito, Bernie and Ramona, Terence and Lorraine, grandfather of Rohini, Sonia, Nigel and Jacquelyn, great grandfather of Megan, Emily and Shakira, passed away peacefully in Melbourne, Australia, on September 6, 2009.

Viewing & Vigil Service at 6.30 p.m. on Friday, 11th September, 2009 at TOBIN BROTHERS, 294 Burwood Hwy., East Burwood.

Funeral on Tuesday, 15th September, 2009 at 10.30 a.m. at Good Shepherd Church, 34 Academy Avenue, Wheelers Hill.

Harry was the son-in-law of the late Chev L C Pais and Angeline Pais, and brother-in-law of Petsy D'Souza of Canada, Chev Clarence Pais K.S.G., advocate and notary; and the late Dr Loy Pais. He was the brother of the late Edith Mascarenhas, Ethel Vaz, Arthur Saldanha and retired Chief Engineer (PWD) Walter Saldanha.

Thank you all for the condolences. My father was 93.5 years and died very peacefully and although his body started failing, his mind was perfect. He also had a very peacefull death. The one who should get the credit is my mother Merlyn Christine . I am proud to be his son.He leaves behind his wife Merlyn Christine his daughter Premila Mary and husband Ebbie Joseph Brito, Their two daughters Rohini Ann and husband Jossie and two daughters Megan & Emily.Their other daughter Sonia Maree And husband Murray and daughter Shakira. His son Gerard Harold Bernard Saldanha And wife Ramona Vivianne and son Nigel Gerard. And his other son Terrence Vernon his wife Lorraine and daughter Jacquelyn. He had a peaceful long life of 93.5 years and a peaceful death. We are all very proud of him and is now in the hands of the lord. Thanks everybody for your prayers. We love you daddy. Our dearest A Merlyn, Premila, Bernie, Terence and your respective families. Really saddened with the news of U Harry''s demise. The picture is so real and gives a true glimpse of his real life situation. A person well read, extremely strict, yet with a kind heart and above all had a nice sense of humour. After all, my Godfather. The nice and pleasant days we spent at Bangalore, with our flats next to each other, is so very fresh in our minds. It was at this time that we came to know this nice, affectionate & lively couple, all the more. The goodness shown to us is fondly remembered very often and can never be forgotten.
