Fr Ernest Mathias Kamath (74), son of the late John and Sabina Mathias, brother of Gerry / Hazel Mathias, the late Rudolph / Jean Mathias, Celine / Joe Miranda, passed away in Canada on Friday June 2, 2011.

Fr Ernest did his priestly studies at St Joseph’s Seminary, Mangalore. He was ordained in December 1962 in Rome.

Imbued with the priestly zeal, Fr Ernest served the People of God in his younger years in Jamaica, West Indies, and later moved to Canada where he became a peoples’ priest. He was known for his gentleness, holiness and pastoral zeal.

May Jesus the Good Shepherd receive our beloved pastor, Fr Ernest, into his Heavenly Home.

It is indeed sad to learn about the demise of dear Father Ernest Mathias. He has been a very upright, honest and good priest serving people to the best of his ability. His work in Jamaica and other places has been very much appreciated and deserves to be commended.

He passing away is a great loss to the people in Canada and more particularly to The Mangaloreans residing in the area.

My wife Irene and I join scores of other people in offering our sincere condolences to Gerry and Hazel - Celine and Joe.
