Capt Daryl Mario Mathias (64), son of the late B C Mathias and the late Marjorie Mathias, husband of Matharani (Rani) Mathias, father of Prashant Mathias / Yasmin Kazi, brother of Cheryl / Anand Nayak and Neville Mathias / Laarni, passed away on October 23, 2025.

Mortal remains will be brought to St Lawrence Church & Shrine, Bondel, Mangalore for viewing on Saturday, October 25 at 10.45 am. Funeral Mass at 11.30am. followed by funeral rites.

Dear Rani, Prashant n Yasmin, Cheryl n Anand, Neville n Laarni, and the wider family, Our heartfelt, deepest condolences to each and all of you on Daryl's early passing. We knew him, his brother and sister and his parental family from the time when we were together in Campion school in the early seventies, and lived in Railway quarters in Mumbai when both our Dads were in the Indian Railways. My brother was in his class both in Campion and later in Loyola college in Madras. After a long gap, we met Cheryl twice this year in Mumbai in April and in Bangalore in mid August along with her husband. I went last November to Mangalore for a family wedding, but were not able to connect with him, despite being in Bondel. My Mum has warm memories of meeting him over a meal, along with my Dad at his place during their last visit to Mangalore. May Daryl rest in peace. Loy Rego

We became thick friends during our cadet days. He was always very lively and with great sense of humour. Every moment I spent with him was full of joy. He also was very supportive in the when post needed. I missed him a lot when our ways parted after few years. Sad to hear this news. I have very fond memories of my time with Daryl as Master on Royal Arrow, especially during the Singapore drydock when our wives were also on board. The lounge in the evenings used to turn into a rockstar arena! Daryl was a wonderful cook and an exceptional leader — calm, humorous, and effortlessly effective in his signature lazzie farrie style of leadership.
