Fr Ralph da Costa SJ, former Scripture professor at St Joseph’s Seminary, Mangalore, former Rector of St Aloysius College, Mangalore and De Nobili College, Pune, passed away Arrupe Nivas, St Joseph’s University campus, Bangalore on Wednesday, March 4, 2026.

Funeral on Thursday, March 5 at 3.30 pm in Mount St Joseph, Bannerghatta Road, Bangalore, thereafter burial at the Jesuit cemetery, Mount St Joseph.

Fr Ralph da Costa SJ quietly went about fulfilling his duties with deep dedication and grace. A respected scholar and able administrator, he was also a gifted musician. When I last met Fr Ralph at Mt St Joseph, Bangalore, he was aging gracefully, still eager to be useful to the novices and to serve at the Retreat House. His gentle presence and spirit of service were truly inspiring. With the passing of Fr Ralph, the Karnataka Province of the Society of Jesus has lost an exemplary Jesuit whose life reflected scholarship, humility, and faithful service. My heartfelt sympathies to the Jesuits of the Karnataka Province and to the family of Fr Ralph. May his noble soul rest in peace. Naveen Frank, Sharjah, UAE
