Louis Joseph Martis (L J Martis) (84), Ex Principal, Staff Training College, Syndicate Bank, husband of Veeda Martis (nee Miranda), father of Jyothi / Franco D’Souza, grandfather of Wenona and Dwayne, passed away on Friday, June 20, 2014.
Mortal remains will be brought for viewing to Milagres Church, Mangalore at 3.30 pm on Monday, June 23 followed by Mass and funeral rites at 4.00 pm.

Tue, Jul 15 2014I had joined Syndicate Bank as an Officer Trainee in 1975. I had heard a lot about Mr.L.J.Martis, about his humility, excellent teaching ability and a beautiful handwriting. I had the privilege of meeting him about 33 years back in Chennai.I always held him in very high esteem for his stellar qualities and unbelievable talent. Being a calligrapher myself, it is sad that I had not seen his handwriting. If someone can help me get photocopies of some of his calligraphy work, I will be very grateful to him/her. I found him to be absolutely down-to-earth. Although I moved into Mangalore from Chennai in 2008, I was unlucky not to have met him in Mangalore even once. I did not have his contact details. I was not destined to meet this great individual. May his soul rest in peace. I offer my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and may God give strength to them to bear the loss.

I am sure every body who was trained by him in Syndicate Bank will remember him always. I have still preserved the personal file given by him writing my name on it in his own beautiful handwriting, after my induction training at Syndicate Bank in 1974. May his soul rest in peace.
