Senior Cop Implicates Gujarat CM Modi in Godhra Riots

New Delhi, Apr 22 (Agencies): Senior IPS officer Sanjay Bhatt, who was posted in the Intelligence Department, has filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court accusing Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi of complicity in the 2002 Godhra case.

Bhatt in his affidavit states that he attended a meeting held at the chief minister's residence on February 27, 2002.

Stating that the senior police officials had blindly followed Modis instructions in 2002, the officer in his affidavit further stated that this was responsible for the deterioration in the law and order situation in the state.

The officer claimed that he has filed this affidavit in the apex court because he has no faith in the Special Investigation Team ( SIT) appointed to probe the case.

Bhatt has also made a request to the apex court to provide protection to him and his family.

A special court in Ahmedabad had on March 1 awarded death penalty to eleven accused and life imprisonment to 20 others in the 2002 Godhra train burning case.

Earlier on February 22, the court convicted 31 and acquitted 63 others, including the prime conspirator Maulvi Hussain Umarji

Apart from the charges of murder, attempt to murder and criminal conspiracy, the accused were convicted under IPC sections 147, 148 (rioting with deadly weapons), 323, 324, 325, 326 (causing hurt), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on religious grounds), various sections of the Indian Railways Act, Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act and Bombay Police Act.

The court pronounced judgment on the role of over 90 people accused of conspiring and burning the S-6 coach of the Sabarmati Express on February 27, 2002. Fifty-nine people, mostly Kar Sewaks returning from Ayodhya, were killed in the incident.

Following the Godhra train burning incident, widespread communal riots broke out in various parts of Gujarat in which over 1,000 people, mostly from the minority community, were killed.

Truth is out on Gujarat riots: Teesta Setalvad

Social activist Teesta Setalvad Friday said the truth has finally come out on the 2002 Gujarat riots as a senior police officer blamed Chief Minister Narendra Modi of direct complicity in the anti-Muslim carnage that left over 1,000 people dead.

"All I can say id that truth has finally comes out. Despite the very best efforts of a very vindictive government using money and muscle power, the truth has finally come out," Setalvad, who has been campaigning against Modi, said reacting to the affidavit filed by Sanjiv Bhatt in the Supreme Court.

However, she said there were reservations that activists in Gujarat have against the Special Investigation Team that the Supreme Court set up to probe the riots cases.
"We have certain reservations of SIT in 2009. We continue to have reservations. But the fact that the SC is watching the case... the fact that we have independent amicus curiae... despite whatever the (Gujarat) government tried to do, the truth will come out," she added.

Sanjiv Bhatt, a 1988 Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, has blamed Narendra Modi for the 2002 "communal carnage", saying he wanted Muslims to be taught "a lesson" for the train burning at Godhra that left 59 Hindus dead. Bhatt also said in an affidavit to the Supreme Court that the SIT set up by the apex court seemed uninterested in unravelling the larger conspiracy behind the 2002 violence that swept Gujarat.

1984 riots against Sikh Community & Godhra killings are one and the same, two faces of one coin. But Gandhi family did not initiate nor supported those riots against Sikhs Mrs. Indira Gandhi loved Sikh community very much and kept Sikh security guards for her personal safety. But despite all her good motives the security persons killed her, that’s very bad. In ouster of terrorists from Golden Temple not a single Hindu soldiers was used, soldiers from another community (I don’t want to mention it here) was used safe guard the holy place and temple. So that no soldier may not take revenge against that community.
But Modi openly supported Godhra Riots and his intention was to Punish the Muslim community. Modi's development work in Gujrat is bcz of central govt funds and positive initiative with liberalised policys, else modi is nothing but another Lallu Prasad of Bihar. Sonya does not make partiality with BJP ruled states. That's the best congress policy.

If what Sanjay Bhutt is saying now is correct, he should be kicked out of service forth- with for keeping quite for over 9 years. He is not an ordinary citizen but an officer of All India Services ,appointed by the President of India to up hold the security & integrity of the country. His charter of duty does not include obeying any unlaw****l orders or instructions from any one including Prime Minister/Chief Minister/Ministers.

If he knew, that the instructions of the CM Modi were wrong, and could do great harm to the society (& in turn, to the country),why he kept quite for 10 years & did not bring the facts to the notice of his superiors/President of India/Chief Justice of India etc.

It is obvious that Bhutt has been lured by the Congress to make these false statements against Modi now for political reasons as it is **** scared of Modi & his growing popularity in the country. And poor but foolish Bhutt has taken the bait of the Congress hoping for some personal gain (say an out of turn promotion or a lucrative foreign posting etc). Only answer to bring some effectiveness in the administration of the country is to throw out such spineless officers from the service. JAI HIND

India is much better place comparing to world dangerous places where we have no religious freedom at all and humans are treated as lower caste etc. May be Modi has involved with this crime we don't know but for sure as a democratic nation one must repect fellow human citizens with all respect and stop terror activities. IPS officer Bhatt not present in meeting with Narendra Modi: Gujarat Ex-DGP

Gujarat's director general of police at the time of post-Godhra riots on Saturday said IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt, who has filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court implicating Narendra Modi in the communal clashes, was not present in the meeting with the chief minister held on February 27, 2002.

"He (Sanjiv Bhatt) was not present in that particular meeting held with the chief minister and other high-ranking officials. I have told this to the special investigation team (probing the riots) during my deposition," K Chakrabarthi, now retired, told PTI over phone from Mumbai.

"Now, it is up to the SIT and Supreme Court to decide on it," he said.

Bhatt, in his affidavit, has said he attended the said meeting (on the day of Godhra train burning incident) as he was asked to accompany the DGP by the state control room.

Bhatt, posted as DCP at the state intelligence bureau (SIB) during the 2002 riots, said he had attended the meeting along with the DGP.

In his testimony before the SIT, Modi had also said Bhatt, being a junior officer at that time, was not present in the February 27 meeting.

In the affidavit, Bhatt has alleged the Gujarat chief minister, at the meeting, had instructed officers to allow Hindus "to vent out their anger" during the clashes and he wanted Muslims to be "taught a lesson."

Bhatt, in the affidavit filed on April 14, has also accused the apex court-appoint

I believe in the universal brotherhood and I agree that there should not be any fights or killing in the name of religion or ideologies.

I am still wondering why people don’t talk about Sikh riots and bring people responsible for the same behind the bars. Why only Godhra? Why there is/ was no head-line on Rajeev Gandhi, who wanted to teach a lesson to Sikh's after the killing of One person Mrs. Gandhi? I really don’t understand why media still harping on the same issue again and again. Only Muslims in this country are human beings? What about 60 odd kar sevaks who died in the carnage? Who instigated it in the first place? Why there is/was no action?

Shame on Sanjav Bhatt.....!!!! Was he sleeping all these years....These so called upright police officers, POP UP like hot Popcorn every now and then with strange looking court documents to prove their worthiness. Who prompted him to file this affidavit now? What was he doing all these years? Waiting for instructions? What did Bhatt do after he received the so called instructions from Modi ? Mr Narendra Modi is a Chief Minister of Gujarat state in India. His governance and leadership developed the state and his performance marked an extraordinary level incomparable to other Indian states which are entangled with governance issues of dacoit, rape cases, corruption scams, Naxalite movement, Maoist rebellion, insurgency and terrorism. However, the Godhra incidence of Mass Muslim Massacre, 2002 by the Hindus in Gujarat was alleged by his political opponents as designed by him. The truth is that communal riots/conflicts in India is part of the country's historical process since the days of partition with Pakistan and Bangladesh and no single individual can be put to blame for any communal fight. For that matter, it is even wrong to blame the Britisher for the partition of India because India was never united before British Rule and is still not united after British Rule . Nation building begins with true development process which this CM has done. Everybody including the Muslims are happy now under his leadership but unfortunately, it is his own community members of the Hindus who are now alleging and fueling fire of old communal discontentment. None of the complaints had come from the Muslim Community themselves to reopen the wound on 2002. It is indeed a sad picture to evidence the so called crab mentality which we often used in this country to describe jealousy of someone's success.

As per chief investigating officer Noel Parmar(Noel Parmar was the investigating officer in the Godhra case who retired in 2009 after 43 years of service in the Gujarat police. He was known to be a tough officer throughout his career and has been constantly targeted by the civil society groups fighting for the accused in the Godhra case.[14]), following events took place that led to the train burning

..a communal-minded group wanted to teach a lesson to the karsevaks.. February 26, 2002, they called a meeting at the Aman guesthouse near the railway station. .. They collected some 140 liters of petrol from a nearby petrol pump.[14] Salim Paanwala went to check the train's arrival time. .. found that the Sabarmati Express was late by four hours. He verified with a ticket checker, whose testimony was taken. Paanwala went back to the guesthouse and told the people gathered there that they should take a short nap and come back around 6.30 am[14]. When the train arrived and a crowd started gathering, stone-pelting started. The passengers of the train shut the train's doors and windows. The train moved ahead to escape the stones being hurled. At that point the accused, according to plan, came to the station with the petrol. The crowd was at that time running along with the train. This is significant[14]. The train was halted by one of the accused by pulling the (emergency stop) chain. Razaak Kurkur and Paanwala had given some boys the duty to board the train.

Every human being's actions are recorded in his/her book. Accordingly he/she will get punishment, if anyone has done manslaughter abusing his power, he will be facing similar or mush more severe punishment after his death. Assuming a leader killer 1000 innocent people only because they belong to other religion, he will killed and made alive 1000 times in a similar fashion he slaughtered the victims.

At the end of the day the day account has to be settled and decided. This applies each and every human being whether it is Modi, Binladen or Bush. Our days are numbered and every living soul bound to die and that is something we need to ponder when we live in this life tennure.

WHOLE WORLD KNOWS THAT THIS MODI IS A MURDERER, MASS KILLER. HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN BEHIND THE BARS LONG BACK AND ROTTING THERE. WHAT THE HELL HE TALKS ABOUT DEVELOPMENT, IS IT BY KILLING THE INNOCENT PEOPLE? AND THERE ARE PEOPLE OF EQUAL CHARACTER

This is the real face of Modi and BJP. I hope like minded people in India realise how being a danger these Modi's are to our great country India
a person is involved in riots he should be hanged either it could be from any party, community or organization. Development doesn't means killing innocent people. So, we should condemn all those activities through which any people get killed. we should live like Indian.
First BJP/RSS will start a fight in between two communities, then win the election , same happened in Mlore aswel …Divide and rule
    India Jai Ho.............

It happens only in India...someone who wants to wipe out terrorism is being labelled as butcher...Patriotism should be priority then religion....Travel to the US and u will find modi in each officer who screens and investigates in the US airport.

In every case all over India, the end results are the Muslims being the biggest casualty. They arrest young Muslims en-mass, brutally torture them, kill few of them by encounter, refuse bail to them, mentally torture their family members, forcibly make them accept the crime that they have not committed and live them at the mercy of corrupt law. When comes out, they are the greatest explosive threat to our nation. They will not hesitate to do anything including giving their life hence people like Modi are responsible for the creating of the future uncertain tragedies. Please don’t play with human psychology that is deadly if misused.

The ironay is that no body has been booked so far for the 1984 Sikh Riots where more than 2000 skih brothers were killed just after the death of Mrs. Indira Gandhi and Congress was rulling the country at that time as well as no justice has been done so far for the Bohpal Gas victims who are still suffering and the at that time also the congress was rulling in center as well as in Bhopal. Also so many Kasmiri Pandit are killed in Kasmir and no one is booke so far and the same congress party was in rule at center as well as at state. These kind of tackticks are used by congress inorder to divert the attention away from the 'MAHA' Corruption which is happening under their rule.
