Udupi, Sep 15: A 16-year-old minor boy was driving the goods lorry which hit the father and son duo in Uchilla resulting in the death of both of them.
On September 14 morning, an unidentified vehicle had hit Prabhakar and his son Samarth when they were standing on the side of the NH-66. The vehicle and the driver had escaped after the accident.
Padubidri police seized the goods lorry and took its driver into custody from Ganjimutt in DK district based on CCTV footage obtained by the police.
During the investigation, Shekar, driver of the lorry revealed that a 16-year-old boy working as a cleaner in the lorry was driving the vehicle at the time of accident. The boy had a fantasy to drive a lorry and had done so on earlier occasions.
As he was feeling sleepy, he had informed about it to Shekar 20 minutes before the accident occurred. It is said that the boy was even unaware that he had caused an accident.
Shekar, driver of the lorry has been arrested and has been remanded to judicial custody while the minor boy who was driving the vehicle has been sent to a juvenile home.

Kaup: Boy seriously injured in road mishap succumbs to injuries

Kaup, Sep 15: The boy who was seriously injured after hit by an unidentified lorry on Wednesday September 14, succumbed to his injuries on Thursday September 15.
The deceased is identified as Samarth (14).
It may be recalled, a speeding lorry had hit Samarth and his father here at Uchila on Wednesday morning. The boy’s father Prabhakar Kotha had died on the spot.
Prabhakar and his son Samarth had come from Belagavi on Tuesday night by a government bus to enrol their son in a private school here in Kaup.
