Mangalore, Apr 22:
City's dancing sensation Cornel Octavia Rodrigues, who went on to become the runner-up in Zee TV's popular reality show Lux Dance India Dance, was given splendid welcome at the Bajpe airport here on Thursday April 21 evening.

Cornel, who landed in the city at around 7.30 pm, was welcomed by various organizations like social service wing, Jeppina Mogaru, Friends Cricket Thandolige, Sangam Friends Club, Sriram Sports and Jeppina Mogaru Grama Yuvaka Mandal.

Cornel was taken in a victory lap on an open jeep from Pumpwell to Jeppina Mogaru, with his friends and well-wishers dancing, shouting in joy and whistling to the beat of drums by Bhooshan Nasik band members.

Sudhakar J, president of Social Service Wing and others were present.

Cornel Rodrigues, who hails from Jeppina Mogeru here, belongs to Bajal parish. He pursued his education at St Aloysius College. Surprisingly, Cornel has not undergone any professional training in dance and learnt it himself by watching dance videos. He is currently residing in Mumbai.

Cornel won the second spot in Dance India Dance (DID) Doubles along with his partner from Kolkata Sonali Kar.

The show was aired on Zee TV every Friday and Saturday at 9.30 pm. The audition round was conducted in the month of December 2010 after which the judges chose 12 pairs from a huge number of contestants. One of the pairs was that of Cornel and Sonali.

The pair impressed the judges with their dedication and commitment and won the ‘Nano Best Performance of the Day’ title twice. Cornel and Sonali represented Geeta Ki Gang group. The final results were declared on April 9.

Hats off to you Cornel. Keep it up. Was watching every Fri/Sat. Final Rounds I thought you will win. But its okay. You made it upto the first runners up thats winning also. You can be an ideal dancer for the youth of M'lore. Why dont you open dance classes in Mangalore and help the young generation come out with flying colours.
