ED summons Shivakumar in money laundering case; DK questions timing

Bengaluru, Sep 15 (IANS): The Enforcement Directorate has issued a summon to Karnataka Congress chief D.K. Shivakumar in connection with a money laundering case.

Reacting to the ED move, the senior Congress leader, who is currently busy making arrangements for the arrival of Rahul Gandhi's 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' in the state, questioned the timing of the summon.

"In the midst of the Bharat Jodo Yatra and the ongoing Assembly session, they have again issued me a summon to appear before the ED. I am ready to cooperate with the probe, but the timing of this summon and the harassment I am made to go through is coming in the way of discharging my constitutional and political duties," Shivakumar, who is in Mysore, tweeted on Thursday.

Even as the Karnataka Assembly session is underway, Shivakumar has been busy making preperations for the arrival of Bharat Jodo Yatra in the state.

In August this year, a Delhi court had granted bail to Shivakumar and other accused persons in connection with a 2018 money laundering case registered by the ED.

According to the financial probe agency, Shivakumar, who was a minister in Karnataka during the Congress regime, had generated huge amount of illegal and unaccounted cash and a criminal conspiracy was hatched with other co-accused persons for tax evasion and the tainted cash was transported from Bengaluru to Delhi.

The Income Tax Department had conducted search and seizure operations on August 2, 2017 at various properties in Delhi belonging to the accused persons, seizing unaccounted cash to the tune of Rs 8,59,69,100, the probe agency had said.

Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition and former chief minister Siddaramaiah has condemned the move against his party colleague D K Shivakumar in a tweet.

This is getting very very tedious. We have a govt which keeps doing the same old strategy for 8 yrs but cannot get a single common man item price right, or get the roads cleared of storm water and an opposition which is dis united, dis oriented by constant threats of ED, CBI ,IT you name it . There is no honesty here -just tired old politics of buying , selling and threatening of mla's . What ever happens -the loser is the common man who keeps getting crushed under grinding wheel of stupidity. Sight of Bangalore sinking in rain is just an example - Now the adhoc breaking of supposedly illegal structures on Rajkaluve . The practice of political horse trading has become a norm-i can see people calling it a brilliant move etc. Nothing could be further from the truth. This has happened in the 70's -80's - keep it up and India was in Limbo from, 75 uptill 90 when at brink of bankruptcy -we were forced to put forward reforms.

Arre ! DKS is behaving like he has won a medal or done something great for the country ! Someone tell him. Just a month back Sanjay Raut somebody of SS was ranting as if he owned Mumbai, yes the same fella cursed by Kangana. See his fate today. Crying in jail after looting public money. He too had dared the ED ! Now for DKS sake he'd better fall in line. He is an offender not an achiever! Follow rule of the land everyone.

Timing? What ever it is, its a big doubt that your party will win by a majority and you will become the CM. So 'timing' does not really matter.

Timing is good for those who accumulated wealth thru right way. Otherwise fearness multiply all the time and take advantage by others on right time which will prove them worthwhile. Never ever thought by respected Dr.Abdul Kalamji choosen wrong path ever still he proved himself sucessful and made name and fame in the society. For such people God's blessings always there. Better to grow DK beard upto 2023.
