Prosecute Modi, says CPI-M

New Delhi, April 23 (IANS) Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi should be prosecuted for his "culpability" in the 2002 riots, in the wake of the allegations by a senior police officer, the CPI-M said Saturday.

The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) said the affidavit in the Supreme Court by officer Sanjiv Bhatt "has provided direct evidence of the role of Modi in the 2002 pogroms against the minority community.

"The official has stated that the chief minister instructed senior police officials not to act to protect Muslims from violence.

"This testimony confirms the culpability of the chief minister in the pogroms. There should be no further delay in the investigations into the role of Modi and initiating steps to prosecute him."
