Mangaluru, Sep 19: Police have alerted on network of fraudsters who create fake WhatsApp profile of senior government officers which are used to send messages to junior officers in order to fleece them.

The modus operandi of the cheaters is that they create a fake WhatsApp profile using the photo from the WhatsApp profile of senior officers. They introduce themselves as senior officer and send message, “I am busy. You call a number and give information.” If the junior officer responds to the number provided in the message his number also will be hacked.

In some cases conmen contact junior level officers through fake WhatsApp profile and ask them to buy Amazon Pay gift card and send it to the number mentioned in the message. In most of the cases junior officers working in ministries of the government are taken for ride by online fraudsters through this method. Cyber police have asked government officials to be alert.
