TN lawyer on the run after attempt to murder public prosecutor, daughter


Chennai, Sep 19 (IANS): A lawyer in Tamil Nadu, Abdul Rahiman (25), who tried to murder a public prosecutor and her daughter, was on the run.

The incident occurred in Tiruppur on Sunday and the police have registered a case against the man.

Police said that on Sunday, Jameela Bhanu (42), a public prosecutor at Tiruppur Mahila Court, and Amirnisha (20), her daughter and a law student, were sitting in their office when some unidentified people entered the office and assaulted them. The mother and daughter suffered serious injuries.

Police said that Amirnisha, who was a law student at the Salem Law College, was also working in the office of a senior advocate whereas Abdul Rahiman was working as a junior. Amirnisha lodged a complaint with the Kondalampatti police station in Salem that Abdul Rahiman was stalking her. Police had arrested him under the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act.

Tiruppur police said that he had arranged armed goons to murder the mother and daughter after he came out of jail on bail. A case has been registered against him and some unidentified persons.
