Mangaluru: Truck driver gets 6 months jail, fined over accident that killed 3 people

Mangaluru, Sep 22: City court sentenced Parameshwar, accused truck driver, who caused ghastly road accident at Padre near Surathkal in 2014, which resulted in the death of three people, to six months in prison and fine of Rs 7,500 or additional three months prison if he fails to pay the fine amount.

The verdict was pronounced by Justice Anjali Sharma. On May 12, 2014 in the accident that occurred between the truck driver by convict Parameshwar and an auto rickshaw children of Savitha Srinatha couple Nishmitha, Manisha and auto rickshaw driver Sunil were killed.

The then circle inspector Nataraj had filed charge sheet in the court. Assistant public prosecutor Geeta Rai argued for the prosecution.

    This is utter miscarriage of law. In North Carolina (USA) vehicular manslaughter can be charged as a Class D felony. A conviction can result in a prison sentence of 38 to 120 months and a fine to be determined by the judge. Lawmakers in Karnataka need to look into revising the penal codes.

    Is it a joke ?Did the justice mistook to say 6years to 6months ,?That too after 8years after accident ´?No words .Would she also do the same if accident happened to her family and die three people died in very tragic way?Punishment and fine is a joke.in play ground?after six months he will come out and will do.I am sure he will not change even after coming out.Thinking doesnt matter Simply cant believe,should have atleast 10,000Rs fine for that .

    If one reads the news article of the accident in 2014, it is written how the then MLA Mohideen bava had visited the victims familiy house to condole the deaths. But we didnt see similar gesture during Aatish accident at nantoor few months ago. Infact despite all the protest and media scrutiny, i dont think they still visited Aathish parents. This is the difference of our votes when done on basis of everything except development
