Washington, Apr 26 (PTI) Terming Syrian government's assault on its people as 'completely deplorable', the White House said that the US is considering a range of options against the country including targeted sanctions.
"Syria already is under some significant sanctions by the US, but we are looking at other means to increase the pressure on the regime and the Syrian government in a targeted way," White House Press Secretary Jay Carney told reporters.
Carney, however, refrained from giving any further details of the sanctions being considered against Syria.
The US already had a fairly aggressive unilateral regime of sanctions in place since 2003 and "this would be in addition to that, if we were to pursue that course of action.
