Moscow, April 27 (IANS/RIA Novosti) A power transition plan between Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh and the opposition could be signed Saturday in the Saudi capital of Riyadh, Al Jazeera reported.

Under the plan, proposed by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), the president will resign within 30 days and the new president will be elected within two months.

"The secretary general of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Abdullatif Al-Zayani, is expected to arrive in the Yemeni capital Sana'a in the next few days to finally coordinate all details of the deal between the conflicting parties," opposition leader Mohammed Salem Bassandawa said.

He said the president had already agreed to meet with Al-Zayani, and after their talks the date and venue for the signing of the deal would be announced.

The GCC comprises Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Saudi Arabia.

Saleh, who has ruled Yemen for more than three decades, voiced his readiness to accept the transition plan Friday, during a rally of his supporters.

The opposition coalition also welcomed the GCC plan, but refused to take part in the national unity government and criticised the plan for making Saleh and his relatives immune to prosecution.

Protests inspired by popular uprisings in Tunisia and Egypt broke out in Yemen in early February. According to western media reports, at least 120 people have been killed in clashes between protesters and government troops.
