Udupi: BJP Wrests All Three APMCs in District

Udupi, Apr 29: BJP, while retaining Udupi and Karkala Agricultural Produce Market Committees (APMC), has wrested Kundapur APMC from the Congress. With this, APMCs of all the three taluks of the district, elections for which were held recently, have come into the BJP fold.
In Udupi taluk, BJP got nine seats, while Congress secured three, with the other seat going to the JDS. Congress had supported JDS in this constituency.
In Kundapur, BJP got eight seats as compared to five of the Congress. In Karkala taluk, BJP got nine seats, leaving the balance four to the Congress.
District BJP president, K Udayakumar Shetty, district in-charge minister, Dr V S Acharya, and MP, D V Sadanand Gowda, have expressed happiness at the BJP’s feat of winning majority of the seats in all the three APMCs for the first time, and bagging power in them.
Winning Candidates: Udupi – Devadas Salian (Kota), Sujyoti A Hegde (Barkur), Shankar Shetty (Mandarti), Narayan Naik (Brahmavar), Bhaskar Shetty (Udupi), Kuilady Suresh Nayak (Manipal), Sudhama Shetty (Kaup), Lakshman L Shetty (Padubidri), and Ramakant Kamat (merchants’ constituency). All these seats went to BJP. Congress candidates, who won in the election are, Melvyn Sequeira (Kallianpur), Boggu Parava (Shirva), Ashok Shetty (TAPCMS). The lone JDS candidate to become victorious was B Ramesh Shetty from Perdoor constituency.
Kundapur: Deepak Kumar Shetty (Shirur – Congress), Kushtu (Vandse – BJP), Udayakumar Shetty (Kundapur – Congress), B Kishore Kumar (Hombady – BJP), Deenapal Shetty (Halady – BJP), Balakrishna Shetty (Cooperative Marketing Societies), K S Sudhakar Shetty Bhandya (Congress), D Ramarayana Kamath (merchants – BJP), Somashekahr Shetty (Trasi – Congress), Vasanti Kanchan (Kirimanjeshwar – BJP), Shankar Harijana (Siddapur – BJP), Chandrashekhar Shetty (Tekkatte – Congress), and Mohan Vaidya (Ampar – BJP).
Karkala: BJP candidates, Manjula Naik, C Anand Bandimutt, Jaya Naik, Antony D’Souza, Ganesh Naik, K P Pradip Kotian, Raghuchandra Jain, Balakrishna Hegde, and Raghupati Pai got elected for the taluk APMC. Udaya Salian, Xavier D’Mello, Subodh Shetty and H Radhakrishna Nayak were elected from the Congress.
