Bengaluru, Oct 2: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai paid homage to the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi, by garlanding his statue in front of Vidhana Soudha-Vikasa Soudha and also garlanded the portrait of Gandhi on his 153rd birth anniversary.
The Chief Minister later participated in the Gandhi Jayanti function organised by the Karnataka Gandhi Memorial Trust and Information Department and also conferred the Mahatma Gandhi Seva Awards.
He later paid homage to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his 118th birth anniversary by garlanding the statue in front of Vidhana Soudha.
Water Resources Minister Govind M Karjol, Urban Development Minister M T B Nagaraj, Chief Secretary Vandita Sharma and others accompanied the Chief Minister.
The Chief Minister later flagged off the vintage car rally from Vidhana Soudha as part of the 68th Wildlife Week and Walkthon to create awareness on protection of wildlife.
Bommai also flagged off the Kittur Rani Chennama Jyothi Yatra organised as part of the Kittur Festival from Ravindra Kalakshetra.
