Kundapur: Ghastly Bus-car Accident Claims Three Lives

Kundapur, Apr 29: Three people were killed on the spot in a ghastly accident that occurred between a private bus and an Ambassador car on Kundapur–Siddapur state highway in Jansale near Siddapur here on Friday April 29 at around 4 pm.
 
Car driver Meera Saheb (34), a resident of Hennabailu in Siddapur gram panchayat limit, Tunga (35) and Gulabi (34) are the deceased. Shaila (23), and Halappa (42) who sustained serious injuries have been admitted to Manipal hospital.

Passengers of the ill-fated Ambassador were plying from Kundapur to Hennabailu. The impact of the accident was such that the car was dragged to a distance of 50 metres
 
Hennabailu resident Basavarajappa with his wife Gulabi, daughter Shaila, relative Tunga and maid Halappa had come to Kundapur on Friday for treatment at a hospital in Kundapur. Tunga had suffered fracture on her bone, and Shaila came to get treatment for her nose. They were on their way back from the hospital when they met with this accident.
 
The injured were admitted in Kundapur government hospital. The bodies have been kept in mortuary at the same hospital. Kundapur sub-division ASP Ramanivas Sepat, circle inspector Madan Gaonkar, Shankaranarayana SI Jayanth rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to the hospital. A case has been registered in Shankaranarayana police station.

    As somebody has already commented, the time has come to put an end to these Formula 1 racing type pvt. buses which are a big threat to human life and propertye. Howeveher much the drivers are skilled in their driving the lack of good roads and good quality buses, overloading, and overspeeding are the biggest threats. Time has come to put an end to this pvt. service, but I doubt this ever happening here due to the political clout these operators have! Compare with the BEST buses operating in Mumbai, even inspite of having one of the higest traffice density and the biggest fleet has the smallest accident rate all because it is profesinallly run. Time has come to put an end to these "death boxes"!!!! For them money and profit are the only criteria, throwing to caution most imp. parameters of human life and property!!

    God protect the people who regularly travel in these "death boxes"!!

    Harish Shetty, Karkala/Bangalore yes fully agreed with you we have to definately carry out our hearts while travelling in this type of buses. Even the car riders are no more or less like that sometimes. Last week i had been to my native mangalore for vacation. I had also been to udupi by private bus. While reaching Kappu one old lady was about to get down from the bus and driver just moved the bus. The old lady fell from the bus and got hurt badly. when the public gathered and questioned driver about the incident, he was saying that bus was late and moved ahead without noticing the old lady getting down from the bus. Also the bus was busy with competion with the other buses. As Raj Ullal commented those buses are concerned more about competion and their timings rather than giving service to the general public.

    Joyce Correa, Brahmavar- Handady- Mira Road now the govt has to think about introducing govt buses and remove private buses. The private buses are more concerned about competition with the other buses rather than giving service to the public. As a result this type of accident takes place.

    Karnataka Govt should implement strict rules for rash driving in the sate Specially udupi & Mangalore distinct.We personally afraid to travel by buses due this. Very sad news. May the souls rest in peace. I lost my nephew in the road accident 2 months back near mabukala (Sastan) Bridge. Dear Govt authorities kindly do something to avoid future accidents.

    I had been to Siddapura area last Sunday. The roads in this part are single lane and has blind curves. If any one of the vehicle looses control accidents are bound to happen.

    Hope the authorities wake up and make this road a double lane.

    Buses in this routes are fast, but they pass this route daily with precision, people need to think beyond and must take effort to make these roads safer.

    May the souls rest in peace.It is horrible scene if we look @ the Ambssador Car,we could imagine the speed of the vehicles.RTO has to take note of the cause of accident and act accordingly.

    Jossey Saldanha, Mapusa please stop your anti karnataka comments. This type of accidents happens everywhere. Also another accident took place in haryana yesterday where 11 people died. So do you say that adminstration is bad in Harayana also. This is a very sad thing which occured yesterday and should'nt have take place. So please pray for their soul to be rest in peace instead of giving anti karnataka comments everytime.

    like anna hazare someone has to start a movement against the rash drivers and the owners who dont bother to advise them!! and above all some of them are so excited and even comment 'yenkalna bus plane wongiye speeded popundu' why RTO's dont fine these drivers/owners . Three speeding tickets the owners permit should e cancelled !!!
