M’lore University Honours 3 Eminent Achievers at 29th Convocation

Mangalore, Apr 30: H R Bharadwaj, Governor of Karnataka and chancellor of the University presented the honorary doctorate (Honoris Causa) to three eminent personalities for their valuable contribution to the society at the 29th convocation of the varsity held at the newly- built Mangala auditorium on Saturday April 30.


Retired DGP Ajai Kumar Singh was bestowed the honour in the field of literature and administration, litterateurs Bannanje Govindacharya and DK Chowta were honored for the services in the field of literature and literature and social service, respectively.

As part of convocation, 70 Doctor of Philosophy degrees (Arts 16, Science 47, Commerce 5 and Education 2) were awarded. There were 31 gold medals and 56 cash prizes. In all, there were 63 ranks (P.G 44, U.G 19, Arts 12, Science and Technology 32, Commerce 8, Law 4, Education 3 and P.G. Diploma 4).

Addressing the gathering, Justice M N Venkatachaliah, the chief guest, said that next decade will confront society with a range of options of values as science and technology will for ever change our views of the world we live in. All human endeavors must find expression in human well being. It brings in social stability and social harmony, he added and asserted culture is the best expression of our collective best itself. Arts, aesthetics, poetry and those finger things that make ‘life on earth’ beautiful no longer seem to hold our imagination, he said.

Higher education minister Dr V S Acharya, vice- chancellor TC Shivashankar Murthy, Dr Chinnappa Gowda and registrar of Mangalore University, among others were present.

Later speaking to presspersons Yasha, department of Kannada, Mangalore University, Mangalagangothri, daughter of Surendra Shetty and late Meera resident of Ulaibettu who bagged 1 gold medal and 6 cash prizes said that she wants to attain Phd in any aspect of Tulu. Expressing her happiness, she said she is glad about her achievement and her hard work has paid-off.
