Mangalore, Apr 30: The key to achieve communal harmony is within us, and once we understand this, the dream of establishing a harmonius society too can be realized, asserted Bishop Aloysius Paul D’Souza.
He spoke after inaugurating Saamarasya 2011, a festival of food and culture for peace organized by Karnataka Christian Educational Society, Balmatta, and Interfaith Coalition For Peace, New Delhi at KACES grounds, Balmatta here on Saturday April 30. It is part of KACES' mandate on peace initiatives.
Dishes in vegetarian and non-vegetarian segments prepared in Tulunadu style was savoured by epicurians. People were delighted to witness a splendid display of various items like biriyani, pelakayi gatti, gendadadde, aapa, chutni, payasa, rotti under one roof. Home-made wines, pickles and fruit juices too were available at the Saamarasya Aaharotsava.
Samarasya - 2011 reinstated the value attached to coastal cuisine and culture and succeeded in communicating the message of peace, true to the object behind organizing this unique event.
Cultural extravaganza presented by various organizations like Karnataka Beary Sahithya Academy, Karnataka Tulu Sahithya Academy, Karnataka Konkani Sahithya Academy, Alva’s Education Foundation, Moodabidre, Father Muller Charitable Institutions, CSI Shanthi Cathedral, CSI Sushanthi Church, CSI Vishranthi Church, Sandesha ( a foundation for culture and education), Kadri Nrithyalaya, Jamat-e-Islami Hind DK District Unit regaled the audience.

Dr C L Furtado, chairperson, Balmatta Service League presided. Dr Honeybal Cabral, secretary, KACES, Abdul Rauf Puthige, MD, Vishwas Bawa Builders among others were present. Udayavani Bureau Chief Manohar Prasad compered.
Abdul Puttige inaugurated the project titled ‘Meal on Wheels’ which aims at providing food for the elderly and needy people.
