Uttar Pradesh Blames UPA for Bundelkhand Woes

Lucknow, May 1 (IANS) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has accused the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) of not cooperating with the state in countering the miseries of people in the Bundelkhand region, an official said Saturday.

"Despite the limited resources in the state, the chief minister has made every effort for the development of Bundelkhand in her last four years of regime," Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh told reporters here late Saturday evening.

"While the state government has taken a number of steps to counter the backwardness of the Bundelkhand region, it has not received till date any positive response from the centre for the Rs.80,000 crore special package it had sought for an all-round development of the state, particularly Bundelkhand and eastern Uttar Pradesh," he added.

Blaming the central government for not cooperating with the state for development of Bundelkhand, Singh said the state government will continue to take every possible step aimed at raising the living standard of the people of the backward region.
