Abu Dhabi to Get Manipal Medical College : Dr B R Shetty

Manipal, May 1: Dr B R Shetty, Managing director and CEO of New Medical Centre Health Care, Abu Dhabi informed that Manipal Group’s Medical College will be opened in Abu Dhabi from the next academic year.
 
He was speaking at the foundation day celebration organized by Manipal University, Academy of General Education, Dr T M A Pai Foundation and Manipal Media Network Ltd at Valley View Hotel auditorium, Manipal here on Saturday April 30.
He said that the memorandum of understanding to start the college in Abu Dhabi has been signed on Saturday.

Speaking about the idea behind bringing up the medical college in Abu Dhabi Shetty said that Dr Madhava Pai is his role model. His hard work and success had always inspired him and that is the very reason he planned to establish Medical Centre in gulf. The medical college will cater to the needs of many aspiring students and will see success, he expressed.

Manipal University chancellor Dr Ramdas Pai, administrative board member Dr M V Kamath, Manipal Academy president Dr A Krishna Rao and MMNL administrative director T Sathish Pai among others were present.

    Its great news, but considering the realities, UAE (Hardly a population of max 6-7 million and 88% expats and around 60% of working population mostly single) has already 6 or 7 medical colleges offering MBBS Programs and there is currently no scope for another and it will only add to unnecessary and unhealthy competition. It would have been useful if NMC could start PG and Residency Programs and in the later phases consider starting MBBS Program.

    It is a good news that B.R. Shetty is opening a medical college in Abu Dhabi. At the same time he should also stress on primary education, Abu Dhabi lacks Indian CBSE curriculum schools, with indian parents always worried about getting their kids engaged in CBSE schools. Many of the indian schools are also getting closed next year.

    NMC should start a medical college in Abu Dhabi or in UAE. The idea of starting the medical college in coordination with Manipal Group will boost the economy very well in education field. Inspite of NMC having a professionally managed hospital in UAE it was surprising why they did not think of a Medical College which was long over due. Better late than never.
