Mangaluru: Konkani Natak Sabha to hold grand finale of 58th singing competition on Oct 9

Mangaluru, Oct 8: The grand finale of Konkani Natak Sabha’s 58th singing competition will be held on October 9, 3 pm onwards at Don Bosco Hall.

Konkani Natak Sabha started holding Konkani singing competitions in the year 1963 for the Konkani speaking Catholic community. Through this competition, many young singers came to light and a new era of musicians and singers began. After the success of the singing competition, various other competitions were conducted every year which gave an opportunity to showcase various hidden talents. Competitions like drama, elocution, dance, poetry reciting and writing, fancy dress, comedy shows and short plays were held. The Voviyo Verse competition was added in 2019.

The singing competition conducted by the Konkani Natak Sabha is being held even today. Even during the Covid Pandemic in 2020, an online competition was held in which competitors from across the world took part and won prizes. In 2021, due to Covid restrictions and renovation works of Don Bosco Hall, Konkani Natak Sabha could not organize the competition.

To make the 50th singing competition memorable, Konkani Natak Sabha organised the competition in various deaneries of Mangalore diocese. More than 400 competitors took part in this competition from across the diocese. From 2014, Konkani Natak Sabha conducted separate competitions for city competitors and outside the city. The response from outside the city participants was tremendous which continued till 2019.

This year for the first time in the history of Konkani Natak Sabha, the singing competition was conducted in 3 rounds this year. The audition round was conducted on August 7 and 14 for children and adults in Udupi and Mangaluru respectively. More than 225 participants took part in the audition. As many as 94 participants qualified for the second round which was held on September 25 at Don Bosco Hall. The competition was held in 10 different categories for children and adults. Four participants from each category qualified for the grand finale which will be held on October 9 at Don Bosco Hall. Every category has three prizes. The first, second and third prize will consist of a cash prize, certificate and trophy. The results will be announced and the award ceremony will be held at the end of the programme.

Santhosh Sequeira, the donor and patron of Konkani Natak Sabha will be the chief guest for the programme. Louis J Pinto, vice president of Mandd Sobhann, Walter Nandalike, founder of Daijiworld media, and Dayan D'Souza Mukamar, director of Daijiworld Media Pvt Ltd will be the guests for the programme.

Music for the programme will be given by the popular music composer Joswin Pinto and team. Daijiworld.com and Daijiworld 24×7 are the media partners of the event.

Konkani Natak Sabah along with Fr Rocky D'Cunha, president, Liston Derrick D'Souza, vice president, Floyd D'Mello, general secretary, Praveen Rodrigues, assistant secretary and treasurer Gerald Concessao have requested all music lovers to attend the grand event, extend support to the participants and make it a grand success.
