Mangaluru/Udupi: Eid Milad - Prophet revered on birth anniversary with procession

Mangaluru/Udupi, Oct 19: Muslims in Karnataka are celebrating Eid Milad on Sunday October 9. Eid Milad is celebrated on the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad. At many places, Eid will be celebrated on October 10.

On this occasion, Muslims celebrate the life, teachings, sufferings and character of the Prophet. It is believed that the Prophet had even forgiven his enemies.

On Eid, people wear new clothes, offer prayers and exchange gifts. The festival falls in the month of Rabi-ul-Awwal, which is the third month of Islamic lunar calendar, associated with the sighting of the moon. The date also marks the death anniversary of the Prophet. 

 

On Sunday morning, Muslim brethren took out a procession from Ishque Madina Milad in Bunder area to commemorate Eid Milad. A procession was taken out in Bavutagudde also from Zeenath Baksh Jumma Masjid to Eidgah Masjid. 

Udupi district

In Hanglur of Kundapur in Udupi district, Eid Milad was celebrated with fervour at Mohiyudeen Jumma Masjid. 

Speaking on the occasion, Khateeb of the masjid, Aboobacker Siddique Sakafi said, “Prophet Mohammed was born at a time when there were chaos, murders and evil deeds in the society. He changed the society into a model one. The reason for the change is the guidance of Prophet as well as his lifestyle and words. He asked people of all castes and religions to live in harmony. He also said not to be jealous and cause fear and animosity against others.”

The procession which started from Hangaluru mosque proceeded to Vinayaka via Ankadakatte and returned to the mosque. Hundreds of Muslims took part in the procession.
