Mangaluru Oct 11: Chairman of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) M Chandrappa said, “The state government will introduce 350 electric buses across the state within a month in which
50 are allotted for Mangaluru division.”
Addressing media here on Tuesday October 11, Chandrappa said, “Apart from electric buses, the government is planning to include additional 650 buses including 50 Volvo buses. We have Volvo buses which have some great facilities for passengers for their smooth travel to their respective destinations.
“We have scrapped a few unnecessary posts at the head office in Bengaluru. The employees were transferred to other divisions to fill the vacant posts,” said Chandrappa.
Over the successful ‘Dasara Darshini’ special buses, Chandrappa said, “The tourism package will be introduced yet again during Deepavali where passengers can travel to temples in and around Dakshina Kannada. If the demand increases, such package system tour will be made available during weekends and buses will be increased for the same.
“The government has issued free bus passes for construction labourers for three months duration. The users can later renew their passes. In Mangaluru region which includes Mangaluru, Udupi and Kundapur, there are 672 recipients. As many as 296 passes have been printed and 376 passes are pending to be printed. In Puttur region which includes Puttur, Madikeri, Sullia, BC Road and Dharmasthala, there are 1,268 recipients, in which 366 passes have been printed and 902 passes are pending to be printed,” he said.
He also said, “The KSRTC has generated Rs 22.54 crore income per day during the seasonal period which is a record. On an average per day, the usual collection used to be Rs 8 crore.”
