Bengaluru, Oct 12: On a day Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, his predecessor B S Yediyurappa and other ministers projected their breakfast at the residence of a Dalit family in Hospete in Vijayapura district on Day 2 of the BJP Janasankalpa Yatra, AICC General Secretary and Congress State in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala has alleged that the atrocities have increased by 54% during the last one year of Bommai rule in Karnataka.

“As many as 16 Dalits were locked and tortured and a pregnant woman lost her child in a plantation of a BJP leader’s family when Bommai and Yediyurappa were getting photographed in a Dalit family’s house,’’ Surjewala said.

In a tweet, Surjewala has asked why the Chief Minister and BJP leaders are silent on the torture of Dalits. “Is this silence an endorsement of the BJP leader’s action,’’ he wanted to know.

The Congress leader also demanded to know why the Chief Minister did not visit the village where the atrocities against the Dalits took place. Can the baby of the pregnant woman who suffered miscarriage due to torture, be brought back, he asked.

Sujewala wanted to know why the atrocities against Dalits went up by 54% in the last one year and wondered if it was part of the strategy to target SC/STs.

The Congress leader demanded why the Rs 6,500 crore earmarked by SC/ST special component plan was returned unutilised and asked if it was part of the plan to weaken the empowerment of Dalits.

Good to see that data based analysis and conclusions drawn. However, can we also say that these cases are now being reported and captured so that whomsoever wants can use it for their convenience can? It is same as World's perception that half of 1.3 billion people in India are potential rapists and are sex starved, because of brutal rape cases making global headlines. Data can say what you want to say, but the question is, "does it make sense, realistically?"
